Led by General Donald Morden, the Rebel Army seeks to defeat the governments in order to unify them. The Regular Army developed a new battle tank called the "Metal Slug" but kept their new model of tank protected in their secret bases waiting for the moment to launch a massive attack against the rebels and end the war. But in 2028 the rebel forces found and captured most of the secret bases with most of the tanks. Now without their secret weapon, the Regular Army lost hope of winning the war since with all those tanks under the control of the rebels it was only a matter of time before they would be defeated.
With the government and the militia hanging in the balance, Lieutenant Rossi reorganizes the majority of the lost Regular Army troops he could rely on to launch a desperate counterattack. The objective of their mission: Recapture the stolen vehicles and use them against the opposition. And if the vehicles cannot be captured, destroy every single one of them. After several battles, the Regular Army defeats the rebel forces and restores order. General Morden is arrested near the end of the conflict and imprisoned in a maximum security military complex while he awaits trial for his war crimes. However, the rebel army managed to contact the Martians, making an alliance to defeat the Regular Army and rule the world together. Thanks to the Martians, the rebels were able to rescue Morden, although they did not know the Martians intended to betray them.

The soldiers of the Peregrine Falcon squadron were declared heroes by the officers of the Regular Navy, and Lieutenants Marco and Tarma were awarded several medals. However, not everyone treated the Peregrine Falcons as heroes because it was the officers of the Regular Navy who had failed to prevent the Rebellion's attack in the first place.
