Persona Attributes

Origin of the character

Giorno Giovanna (ジョルノ・ジョバァーナ, Joruno Jobāna?) is the main protagonist of JoJos bizarre adventure Part 5: Vento Aureo (Golden Wind).

He is the first illegitimate son of DIO (who was conceived in the stolen body of Jonathan Joestar) to appear in the manga and subsequent anime adaptation. He is previously introduced as Haruno Shiobana (汐華 初流乃,, Haruno Shiobana?) , a half-Japanese teenager living in Italy. He talks about his intention to join Passione's gang and his dream of becoming a "Gang-Star" (a combination of "Gangster" and "Superstar").

Other data

Male gender Sexual orientation: bisexual Species: Human Nationality: Japanese/Italian Age: 16+ Height: 1, 73

Appearance

Giorno is a teenage boy of average height and slim build, much smaller in stature than the previous JoJos. He has moderate length golden hair tied up braided into a ponytail, with three distinctive “swirls” or tortellini shapes hanging over his forehead.

He wears a blue two-piece suit with a plaid cape train. The costume has several ornamental features, including winged emblems on the collars and a heart-shaped opening in the chest area. The most prominent feature on his suit is the three ladybug emblems located on each side of his chest and directly below the zipper, matching the look of his Stand Gold Experience. Later, his shoes would also have this same emblem on them. The color scheme of his suit changes often in different color pages, but in summary the most common colors are blue with gold outlines and pink with green outlines.

Before he joined Bruno Bucciarati's gang, he had his hair down, similar to his father. At first he had messy black hair; color that he would change to blonde when he awakened his Stand. After he obtains Gold Experience Requiem, Giorno's hair takes on a much more spiky pattern, where his ponytail comes undone and all of his hair flows to one side.

Personality

During his childhood, Giorno was an unhappy and lonely child until he befriended a gangster. From that day on, the gangster protected him and he learned that he could trust people, becoming a more confident person ever since.

He is an ambitious person, taking every opportunity to get closer to his goal of becoming a "Gangstar". At the beginning of his cooperation with Passione's gangster named Bruno Bucciarati, he wastes no time in infiltrating this organization, and steadily works on paving Bruno's way to rise through its ranks, with Polpo's murder being partially hinted at as a way to get Bruno a promotion. Later on Giorno also tried to get close to Passione's Boss personally, and planned to plant a bug on him.

He is a rather serious teenager, he doesn't take his mind off his mission and the achievements he sets for himself. Although in some situations Giorno thought about more mundane matters, such as the delicious Margherita pizza from Naples, just before being attacked by Notorious B.I.Giorno tends to face things calmly and with great composure, but can still be anxious when things go wrong. He rarely lets his anger take control of his actions, but does show moments of calm fury against certain enemies.

Giorno apparently inherited parts of Jonathan Joestar and Dio Brando's personalities, with the former being present and showing his friendly side towards his comrades and allies, and the latter showing a ruthless and cruel side towards enemies. He has a good heart and seeks to help anyone who has shown him affection, but does not disregard the law so carelessly, having been a small-time thief at the start of his encounter with Koichi and bribing corrupt airport policemen to continue doing so, generally following his own morality and without compromise.

About stands

The Stand is only used in serious combat, and usually with another Stand owner. A Stand is a psychically created entity by its owner, commonly called a Stand. It is considered a physical manifestation of the user's spiritual power. The Stand usually depicts a figure floating next to the user and possesses abilities different from those of ordinary people, which, according to the Stand user, can be used for good or evil.

Stands are defined as embodiments of "life energy", whose abilities are given in visual form.

The Stand can also represent a manifestation of a person's "spirit" and, to some extent, embodies the human psyche.

Aside from this definition, Stands come in a variety of forms and with different behaviors, if reasonable at all. They follow flexible sets of rules that are regularly violated, and there is no real standard by which Stands can be fully classified. Such as the embodiment of psycho.

Day Stand

Gold Experience is one of the most versatile Stands in the series. He has the ability to create and manipulate life upon contact with inert objects, which Giorno most often uses to produce plants and small animals. Both can be used for a variety of purposes ranging from disguise to tracing origins. Gold Experience Requiem is obtained after Giorno pierces Gold Experience with the Scarab Arrow. It has the ability to convert the opponent's willpower and actions to zero. Anyone killed by Requiem will also "have their death reset", forcing them to enter a loop of their own death for all eternity without it being realized. Gold Experience was also pierced by the Arrow during chapter 453, when Giorno was attacked by Black Sabbath, but it is not clear if this is an oversight on Araki's part, or that Requiem was already possible to obtain then, but was only given It counts when it is given a reason to demonstrate.

Personal history (past)

Haruno Shiobana was the son of Dio Brando (DIO) (his father using the body of Jonathan Joestar) and a Japanese woman. His early years were marked by abandonment by his mother, as she left home often and in her own words, "didn't want her son to stop her from having a good life", forcing Haruno to be left alone at night to fear the dark, being too scared and even crying. When he turned four, his mother married an Italian man and they moved to Italy, where "Haruno Shiobana" became "Giorno Giovanna". His new stepfather, however, often beat him for "always trying to read people" when his mother wasn't around. That, coupled with the fact that Giorno easily became the target of street gangsters and other children, gave him very low self-esteem.

However, one day, when Giorno was walking home, he came across a man covered in blood lying in a patch of tall grass. After discovering the injured man, other men approached Giorno, asking him if he knew where the man had gone. Giorno lied to the men, sensing that the injured man had the same character as him, and subconsciously activated his Stand, Gold Experience, to mask the man's presence by causing the grass to grow. Around two months later, the man showed himself to Giorno again and tells Giorno that he would never forget what he had done for him. Things soon become brighter for Giorno: his father stopped beating him and became popular among the children his age. It turned out that the man was a gangster who silently watched over Giorno from the shadows. For Giorno, it was the first time someone else treated him like a human being and showed him respect. On one occasion, Giorno heard gunshots coming from a building, when he saw the mysterious man and his accomplice leaving the building and behind them a child armed with a gun was trying to attack him since the victim

Personal history (Union a passione)

Giorno meets one of Passione's higher-ups named Polpo in prison, who gives him a lighter and tells him to keep it lit for 24 hours to join Passione. Giorno manages to break out of prison, go to his student room, and avoid people while keeping his lighter lit, but a janitor accidentally splashes the lighter and extinguishes it. As Giorno tries to figure out what to do, the janitor relights the lighter for him and Polpo's Stand Black Sabbath appears. He attacks the janitor for relighting the lighter, ultimately killing him by stabbing his spirit with the Bow and Arrow. The Stand then turns its attention to Giorno, who fights with Gold Experience. Thanks to Koichi's help and advice, Giorno manages to destroy Black Sabbath. The next day, Giorno meets Polpo again, who accepts him into Passione, hoping to use Giorno as another tool. However, in retaliation to Polpo for killing the goalkeeper, Giorno transforms Polpo's gun into a banana, leading him to kill himself when he attempts to eat the banana. Giorno then becomes the newest member of the Bucciarati Gang. When he is brought to meet the rest of the members, he is forced to drink a cup of "tea" strongly laced with Leone Abbacchio's urine. Having turned his teeth into jellyfish made of 98% water that absorbed all the water molecules, the group wonders how he did it and if he is keeping some secret. To this, Giorno states that they too keep their abilities a secret.

Relations

Dio Brando: Although Giorno has never been shown to interact with his biological father, he has been shown to value him to some extent, as his wallet was revealed to contain a photograph of Dio. Giorno inherits some of Dio's ruthless and brutal nature, as well as his ambition and charisma. However, he does not use it for evil purposes.

Jonathan Joestar: Unknown even to Giorno, his biological ancestry comes from Jonathan's DNA. As Dio conceived him using Jonathan's body, this allows Giorno to gain the Joestar Birthmark.

Mother (surname Shiobana): Giorno's mother rarely cared for him when he was a child, seeing him as a hindrance to her party life and left him in the dark.

Stepfather (last name Giovanna): Initially, Giorno's stepfather often beat Giorno when his mother was away.

Bruno Bucciarati: Giorno and Bruno first met as adversaries, but Giorno was able to deduce through the flaws in Bruno's tactics against him that Bruno was a good person, and decided to work with him in concluding their fight.

Guido Mista: He is one of the initially nicer people to Giorno in the gang when he joins and is quick to take a liking to him after seeing him in action.

Narancia Ghirga: He shows himself to be taller than Giorno due to his age, though he is easily left dumbfounded by his talent. However, Narancia later relies on him to fight with him against Squalo and Tiziano, even believing that the gang had a chance against the boss if they had him.

Pannacotta Fugo: Fugo initially saw Giorno as an arrogant punk, just like Abbacchio

Leone Abbacchio: He is very suspicious towards Giorno's presence in the gang, going so far as to deny Giorno the right to see his Stand in use while attempting to interrogate an enemy, during which Giorno passively takes the abuse and tries to act cooperatively.
