You wake up your vision blurry and your head, fuck your head hurts really bad. You have no clue were you are right now, you look to be in a little makeshift infirmary... You look down at your forarm S.T.A.L.E.R is tattooed in bold black ink on the inside of your forearm. You have no idea how you got that weird tatoo, all you remember is being near Rostock, which you assume is where you are now.
You're PDA beeps it's sitting on a near by table. picking it up it seems damaged, there's a crack in the screen, and it won't pull up the Sat-Map anymore, all it will show are points of interest tgat were on the original drive...
[Loners]
[PDA ENTRY – FACTION FILE: LONERS]
Status: Active
Classification: Independent / Non-aligned
Loners form the largest and least organized group operating in the Zone. They are not a true faction in the traditional sense there is no central leadership, no official hierarchy, and no permanent headquarters. Most Loners work alone or in small, temporary groups, taking whatever contracts they can find: artifact recovery, escort jobs, bodyguard work, or simple scavenging.
Many of the Zone’s more structured factions originally began as Loner groups that grew large enough to formalize. The most infamous example occurred roughly a decade ago, when a large party of Loners successfully passed the Brain Scorcher. Those who survived the journey were changed by the experience and eventually became the fanatical faction now known as Monolith.
In general, Loners maintain a cautious neutrality toward most other groups. Open hostility is usually reserved for Bandits, Monolith, and Renegades. Relations with everyone else tend to depend on the individual and the situation trust is rare, but outright aggression is not automatic.
Free stalkers, mercenaries without a banner, and those who simply refuse to swear loyalty to anyone else all fall under the broad label of Loner. In the Zone, that often means living by your own rules… and dying by them too.
[Bandits]
[PDA ENTRY – FACTION FILE: BANDITS]
Status: Active
Classification: Criminal / Hostile
Bandits are one of the most common and unpredictable threats in the Zone. The majority are former criminals who entered the Exclusion Zone to escape prosecution, traffic weapons, or profit from the chaos through robbery, extortion, and black market trade. Unlike more structured factions, Bandits are fragmented into individual gangs and crews, each answering only to their own leader.
They are widely regarded as ruthless. Mercy is rare, and most Bandits show little hesitation when it comes to killing or robbing outsiders. Loyalty is usually limited to their immediate gang; even other Bandit groups can become targets if the opportunity for profit or territory presents itself.
Standard engagement protocol among Bandits leans heavily toward aggression. They are typically hostile or shoot on sight toward Loners, Duty, Freedom, Clear Sky, the Military, Renegades, Monolith, and frequently other Bandit gangs. Neutrality is uncommon, and trust is almost nonexistent.
In the Zone, encountering Bandits usually means one of two outcomes: paying a heavy “toll,” or reaching for your weapon.
[Duty]
[PDA ENTRY – FACTION FILE: DUTY]
Status: Active
Classification: Paramilitary / Order-focused
Duty is a highly organized paramilitary faction operating within the Zone. Its members live according to a strict military charter and maintain a clear chain of command. Most of its ranks are filled by individuals with prior military experience; the original founders were drawn from former Spetsnaz and KGB personnel who believed conventional forces were failing to contain the threat.
The faction’s core ideology is straightforward and uncompromising: the Zone is an existential danger to mankind and must be either destroyed or permanently contained. Duty sees itself as the Zone’s internal security force, taking responsibility for eliminating mutants, neutralizing anomalies where possible, and opposing any groups they believe are destabilizing the region or exploiting its dangers.
Their military background shows in every aspect of their operations. Discipline is rigid, hierarchy is respected, and tolerance for disorder is extremely low. Outsiders often describe Duty members as severe, inflexible, and hard edged qualities the faction considers necessary for survival.
Duty maintains open hostility toward Freedom, Bandits, and Monolith, and will typically engage these groups on sight. Relations with other factions are cooler and more conditional, dictated by Duty’s rigid sense of order and mission.
[Freedom]
[PDA ENTRY – FACTION FILE: FREEDOM]
Status: Active
Classification: Anarchist / Anti-authoritarian
Freedom is a loosely organized anarchist faction made up primarily of free stalkers who reject external control over the Zone. Their central goal is to preserve the Exclusion Zone as open territory free from government oversight, corporate exploitation, and any attempt by outside authorities to impose order or claim ownership.
This ideology places them in permanent conflict with Duty, whose rigid paramilitary structure and containment agenda stand in direct opposition to Freedom’s beliefs. The two factions have maintained an ongoing state of armed hostility for years, with frequent skirmishes and little interest in lasting truce. Freedom’s open defiance of authority has also repeatedly drawn the attention and aggression of the Military.
While less rigidly structured than Duty, Freedom still operates with a clear sense of internal loyalty and shared purpose. Members tend to value personal liberty, mutual aid among free stalkers, and resistance against anyone seeking to “civilize” or control the Zone.
Freedom is typically hostile or shoot on sight toward Duty, Bandits, the Military, Renegades, and Monolith. Relations with independent Loners are often more flexible, depending on the individual and the situation.
[Clearsky]
[PDA ENTRY – FACTION FILE: CLEAR SKY]
Status: Active
Classification: Scientific / Research-oriented
Clear Sky is a reclusive faction with roots in the Zone’s deepest secrets. The group was originally formed by former researchers involved in the C-Consciousness project who broke away from the main body in order to pursue independent study. Their primary objective is to find a method to either destroy or permanently neutralize the Zone itself.
Little of their true work is widely understood by ordinary stalkers. Clear Sky maintains a low profile and rarely shares detailed information about its research, leading most outsiders to know only the broadest outline of their goals. Despite this secrecy, the faction has attracted a number of common stalkers who joined for personal reasons whether for payment, shared moral purpose, or genuine interest in scientific discovery.
Clear Sky tends to avoid unnecessary conflict when possible, but it remains firmly hostile toward certain groups. Members will typically engage Bandits, the Military, Renegades, and Monolith on sight. Relations with other factions are more reserved and situational, shaped by the group’s preference for isolation and focus on research over politics.
[Renegades]
[PDA ENTRY – FACTION FILE: RENEGADES]
Status: Active
Classification: Military Rogue / Black-market
The Renegades are a small but highly dangerous battalion sized force that originated from within the Russian military. Operating both along the Zone’s borders and deeper inside its territory, they function as a tightly controlled, secretive unit with little tolerance for outsiders.
Despite their limited numbers, the Renegades are known for extreme aggression and disciplined firepower. Their primary activity involves the illegal trafficking of modern Russian military weaponry, equipment, and even vehicles into the Zone. This black market pipeline has made them a critical (if unofficial) supplier for certain factions, with particularly close ties to Duty, for whom they are widely believed to serve as a major arms source.
The group maintains a closely guarded internal structure and rarely engages in open diplomacy. They are extremely hostile toward Loners, Bandits, Freedom, Clear Sky, and Monolith, and will typically attack these groups on sight. Encounters with Renegades are rarely resolved through negotiation.
[Mercenaries]
[PDA ENTRY – FACTION FILE: MERCENARIES (CERBERUS GROUP)]
Status: Active
Classification: Private Military / Contract-based
Mercenaries operating under the Cerberus Group are highly trained, elite professional soldiers active within the Zone. They are immediately recognizable by their Western American and English accents, signature dark blue Western style armor, and consistent use of NATO weaponry. Cold, disciplined, and pragmatic, they operate under a simple guiding principle: money has no smell.
As a clandestine, neutral hostile force, Cerberus Mercenaries take high paying contracts that typically involve retrieving valuable items, destroying sensitive evidence, or eliminating designated threats. Their training and equipment place them well above the average stalker in combat effectiveness, and they are widely feared for their precision and lack of hesitation.
They maintain no lasting alliances and show little interest in the Zone’s ideological conflicts. Engagements are dictated by contract and circumstance. Cerberus Mercenaries are generally hostile or shoot on sight toward Duty, Bandits, the Military, Renegades, and Monolith. Interactions with independent operators are rare and almost always transactional.
[Ecologists]
[PDA ENTRY – FACTION FILE: ECOLOGISTS]
Status: Active
Classification: Scientific / Research
The Ecologists are a research focused faction dedicated to unlocking the Zone’s most advanced and dangerous secrets. Their primary areas of study include new energy sources, antigravity phenomena, genome modification, and teleportation. Much of their work involves the careful examination and dissection of artifacts and mutants, pushing the boundaries of what most consider possible.
Two of their most significant ongoing research projects center on Laboratory X-16 and the PSI emitter systems tied to it. Due to the highly specialized and often hazardous nature of their work, Ecologists tend to maintain a relatively low combat profile and prefer to hire outside help for protection, recovery, and field support.
As a result, they are widely regarded as one of the more reliable sources of paid contracts for stalkers of nearly any background. Their generally non hostile stance toward most groups makes cooperation possible in many situations. However, they remain firmly hostile toward most Bandit groups and Monolith, and will typically engage these forces on sight when contact occurs.
[Military/Russian Federation]
[PDA ENTRY – FACTION FILE: MILITARY]
Status: Active
Classification: State Military / Border Control
The Military presence in the Zone consists of Russian forces tasked with overseeing and containing the Exclusion Zone. Officially, they maintain an overtly hostile stance toward nearly all stalkers, with only rare exceptions made to preserve a thin veneer of legitimacy. In practice, however, individual units and officers are known to engage in quiet, self serving deals with select stalkers when it advances their own interests inside the Zone.
In recent years the Military’s effective control has been steadily eroding. A combination of renewed Monolith activity and persistent interference from Freedom has stretched their resources and reduced their ability to project authority beyond key positions. Their primary role remains the defense of the Zone’s borders and official entry points, with occasional patrols into more heavily traveled interior areas.
Corruption is widespread and widely acknowledged. Most stalkers regard Military personnel as inherently untrustworthy, capable of turning from temporary ally to executioner the moment the arrangement ceases to benefit them.
The Military is typically hostile or shoot on sight toward Loners, Freedom, Clear Sky, Bandits, and Monolith. Any cooperation is temporary, transactional, and never guaranteed.
Monolith
[PDA ENTRY – FACTION FILE: MONOLITH]
Status: Active
Classification: Religious Fanatics / Hostile
The Monolith are a fanatical cult that controls Pripyat and the territories surrounding the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. Little is known of their true origins. They regard themselves as the sacred guardians of the Zone and kill, without hesitation or mercy, anyone they deem an outsider. Members worship an entity known only as the “Great One,” offering prayers at shrines fitted with powerful psy emitters. Their absolute devotion, advanced equipment, and readiness to die for their cause make them one of the most dangerous forces in the Zone.
After the destruction of the Brain Scorcher, Monolith forces were widely believed to have collapsed. In recent years they have returned for reasons still unknown, once again spreading death through the northern reaches of the Zone. Their only consistent message is the creed they leave behind:
“Bring death to those who spurn the holy power of the Monolith.”
Monolith fighters are hostile on sight to every known faction Loners, Duty, Freedom, Clear Sky, Bandits, Military, Renegades, and Ecologists alike. No negotiation is possible.
The Chernobyl exclusion Zone
Description: The Chernobyl Exclusion Zone, more commonly known simply as the Zone, encompasses the area surrounding the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. Following the Second Disaster, it became a place unlike anywhere else on Earth an unpredictable wasteland where reality itself seems unstable. Deadly anomalies, mutant wildlife, radiation, and hostile factions make every journey a gamble, yet the Zone is also home to priceless artifacts, drawing fortune seekers from across the world.
Not long after it was discovered that large portions of the Zone could be traversed despite dangerous pockets of radiation, illegal expeditions began. These trespassers became known as S.T.A.L.K.E.R.s, a military designation standing for Scavenger, Trespasser, Adventurer, Loner, Killer, Explorer, and Robber. The acronym reflects the many kinds of people who enter the Zone some seeking wealth, others knowledge, redemption, or simply a place to escape the outside world.
Life in the Zone is unforgiving. Supplies are scarce, trust is rare, and death can come from a mutant pack, a hidden anomaly, a sniper's bullet, or the very ground beneath your feet. Despite its dangers, the promise of valuable artifacts and the mysteries hidden within the Zone continue to lure new stalkers inside, ensuring that for every life the Zone claims, another willingly takes its place.
