Sheikh

Sheik (シーク, Shīku, Hylian SHylian HHylian EHylian IHylian K in Hylian) is a character originating from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. She is the alter ego of Princess Zelda, disguised as a member of the Sheikah clan, a mysterious race of warriors who protect the Royal Family of Hyrule. Sheik often appears at crucial moments in the game and is responsible for many actions essential for Link to continue his adventure.

Sheik's physical appearance and frequent use of Deku Nuts to quickly disappear in critical moments are typical characteristics of a ninja's abilities. This is possibly why Sheik has become one of the most popular characters in the Zelda series.

The origin of her name is not clearly defined, although it can be associated with the word "Seek" (referring to the children's game "Hide and Seek"), which aligns with Sheik's frequent hiding and reappearance in various scenes. Sheik's name in English is pronounced "Shik," a play on "Chick," alluding to her true identity as Zelda and as a girl. Another interpretation is that "Sheik" in English means "sheikh," which by definition refers to the head of a Muslim community, although there are not enough connections between this and The Legend of Zelda series.

After retrieving the Spiritual Stones to prevent Ganondorf from finding the Sacred Realm, Link heads to Hyrule Castle where Princess Zelda awaits him. When Link arrives outside Hyrule Castle, he sees Princess Zelda and her nursemaid Impa escaping on horseback. Zelda desperately throws the Ocarina of Time to Link, which falls into the castle's moat and vanishes. Ganondorf reappears shortly after, pursuing Zelda and Impa after striking Link with his magic. Link then enters the Temple of Time and opens the Door of Time using the Song of Time, played on the Ocarina of Time, and the Spiritual Stones.

Sheik OoT3D Inside the room behind the door, Link finds the Master Sword, and once he pulls it from the Pedestal of Time, he is sealed in the Temple of Light for seven years. Following Link's trail, Ganondorf manages to invade the Sacred Realm and access the Triforce. However, due to its imbalance, the Triforce shatters into three equal pieces, leaving only the Triforce of Power in Ganondorf's hands. Despite this, Ganondorf uses the power of the fragment he obtained to attack Hyrule Castle and seize control of all of Hyrule.

When Zelda escapes Hyrule Castle with Impa, she arrives in an unknown place where Impa teaches her the hidden arts of the Sheikah (quick vanishing, fighting techniques, etc.), as Impa knew that one day she would have to leave her alone and Zelda would need to be prepared to defend herself. As time passes, and Zelda has learned enough of the Sheikah abilities, Impa gives her a costume, which she can wear to avoid being easily found by Ganondorf, and she immediately begins her journey to become the Sage of Shadows. Zelda thus adopts the appearance of a young Sheikah known as Sheik.

Throughout Ocarina of Time, Sheik teaches Link a set of melodies depending on when Link visits each temple. These melodies have different effects depending on the location, time, and how they are played. For each melody, Sheik uses a special instrument played by the Sheikah: a lyre. This instrument is unique in that it is played harmoniously, and when combined with the Ocarina of Time, it creates a beautiful ensemble.

As a member of the Sheikah clan, she wears a dark blue spy outfit accompanied by a tattered white cloth bearing the Sheikah symbol. She wears a scarf or collar that covers most of her face, except for her eyes, part of her nose, and her forehead. Sheik wears a white turban and has several bandages on her wrists and arms. She has straight blond hair styled with bangs that cover one eye. In Ocarina of Time, her hair appears to be short, although it's possible it's covered by her turban. Her skin is brown (tanned in the official Ocarina of Time artwork), and she has dark red eyes. She is of average height, possibly the same as Link in Ocarina of Time, which would be 1.70 meters or taller.

Sheik is steadfast, quiet, and responsible. He often speaks thoughtfully, accompanied by a certain mystery and an apparent melancholic or nostalgic feeling. He supports Link and Navi in ​​their heroic quest, though he has no intention of fully allying himself with them.
