Fang (⁇), better known by the alias Fang the Hunter (⁇・⁇・⁇ (Fangu Za Hantá), and also known as Fang the Sniper and Nack the weasel (Fang is a mobian and a weaselgerb and wolf, he is a hybrid ), is an antagonist who appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. He is an anthropomorphic jerboa bounty hunter who is greedy and mischievous, Fang seeks to obtain valuable items such as the Chaos Emeralds for monetary gain, which has often caused conflict between him and Sonic and his friends. His main mode of transportation is his flying "streamline bike" Marvelous Queen, which he is constantly modifying and upgrading. He sometimes wields a fire cork popgun. Fang has been known by many different names over the years. , probably due to his status as a wanted criminal.[3] Although he tries to stay cool and in control, his plans tend to backfire on him due to his arrogance and bad luck,[5]and he tends to run away from danger when things go wrong. Fang is an anthropomorphic jerboa (he is also a wolf and weasel) with black eyes and purple and white fur. Staying true to its namesake, it has a large, sharp fang on the left side of its mouth. He also has long ears, a pointy blue nose, long feet, and a long, thick, purple tail that he uses to bounce and attack his enemies. Originally, Fang was depicted with only four fingers on each hand, although from the Northstar Islands incident onwards, this was increased to the regular five fingers on each hand. For the outfit, he wears a large brown Stetson hat with a black band, brown gloves with metal plates, a brown belt with a gold buckle, and brown boots with white gaiters. During the Egg of Death II incident, a holster was added to the right side of his belt to house his machine gun.

Little is known about Fang's past. Over the years, he has earned the reputation of a notorious land criminal who has used a variety of aliases to hide from authorities.[5][3] For some time, Fang has sought out the seven Chaos Emeralds for monetary gain.[5]

Fang is a mischievous and cunning bounty hunter who strives to be cool and in control, and tries to bolster his strength using gadgets, traps, and his poppy, but is a coward who runs away when his plans backfire on him, which tends to happen because of their bad luck and arrogance.[5] Despite being a wanted criminal, he is smart enough to know how to evade the authorities by using aliases to continue his treasure hunt. Fang is purely motivated by greed. He does not seek world domination, but instead seeks valuable items such as the Chaos Emeralds to sell and get rich.[10]Despite his greed, Fang is willing to work with others and share his reward with his teammates. He is also willing to associate temporarily with his enemies, as long as he is paid for it. The tusk can also be lazy. In the IDW comics, Fang tends to give nicknames to everyone he meets, such as calling Sonic "Fleet-feet".[29] This extends to his allies, Bark the Polar Bear and Bean, he considers his "mooks".

Fang is relatively weak and clumsy, tending to stumble while trying to run and flee from danger. Because of this, he tends to rely on weapons and gadgets, such as his cork-shooting popgun and the Marvelous Queen, he can fit in with a variety of weapons and gadgets such as springs, drills, lasers, drones, shields, and missiles in order to to attack in different ways. Although weak on his feet, Fang's tail is strong and dexterous, and he can use it to bounce, which he tends to do while firing his shotgun. He can also use it in combat, such as to hit his enemies, or to put more force behind his kicks. Fang is an expert pilot, able to effectively operate the Marvelous Queen in both battles and races along with the use of her wide range of tools. Fang is also shown to be a skilled marksman with his popgun, and although it has no lethal firepower, he can use it to temporarily stun someone for a moment and be a general nuisance.[29] Fang is an effective mechanic, capable of modifying and augmenting his vehicle to gain an advantage. When given the right tools, he is able to modify his vehicle with different weapons or features in a quick and effective manner that allows him to properly adapt to the threats he faces. Fang also appears to be good at making things, an ability shown after apparently creating a giant mecha in his own likeness. Fang can be intelligent and use his wits to his advantage in combat situations. This can range from intentionally sabotaging your own vehicle (using it to wrap around a giant snake) to knocking a tougher opponent off balance in order to catch them. He is also well versed in tracking people and objects, being a treasure hunter primarily by trade.

Despite being a seemingly good mechanic, Fang is often prone to making mistakes when designing his weapons, traps, or tools. Sometimes his own traps or tools are counterproductive for him. This can range from a trapped pressure plate setting you on fire to one of your own missiles targeting your vehicle. Without his toys, Fang is not as effective in combat. He relies heavily on his signature Wonderful Queen and popgun to get the job done. Without tools, Fang is often left vulnerable. Fang is clumsy, often falling over himself while trying to flee or sometimes even getting caught in one of his own traps. In addition to his clumsiness, Fang is a coward who runs away as soon as he loses his advantage.

Sonic: Fang has lost to Sonic many times and usually sees him as an enemy, upgrading his Marvelous Queen to take him down. Fang primarily fights Sonic for money, but appears to have some distaste for his previous losses against him, reflecting on them several times. Despite losing to Sonic on multiple occasions, Fang is confident in his ability against Sonic, mainly blaming his losses on technical setbacks. Fang sometimes makes fun of Sonic by calling him "Fleet-feet". Fang and Dr. Eggman have met on many occasions. Once they asked him, along with his Gang, for the doctor to recover the Chaos Emeralds. He was also hired by him at some point to look for anything that could be useful to the doctor for his world conquest. Although, through all of her encounters with him, she just wants the reward. Eggman: When around Eggman, Fang seems to have a level of respect towards him that allows him to associate with him, but he believes that the doctor is a little strict with him at times, which can annoy him a bit. He also gets upset when Eggman uses one of his old aliases when introducing him. Fang is still able to work with Sonic on occasion. Without the promise of a reward, Fang will not actively pursue Sonic or fight him. Trip the Sungazer: She was afraid to disobey Fang due to his constant threats towards her, she acted as Fang's lackey temporarily. But at some point, after abandoning her in Lagoon City and after cruelly kicking the Sungazer lizard, Trip revealed herself and her Golden Dragon form, destroying Fang's mech and establishing herself as his enemy. The rivalry between the two expands during the Sonic Superstars Trip story, where instead of Eggman, Fang is the final boss of their game. Metal Sonic: Secretly in love with him and has not confessed to him because he thought she would reject him.

Bean the Dynamite and Bark the Polar Bear appear as Fang's companions, known as Fang's Gang, in the IDW comics story "Seasons of Chaos". In the story, they assist him and follow his orders. Fang treats them like lackeys, showing them almost no respect and expecting the two to obey him no matter what. Despite this, Fang relies on them whenever he's in a tight situation or feeling helpless in battle, such as commanding Bark to aid him when Fang's corks do no harm towards Mighty or sending his allies out against Mighty when he started feeling intimidated. They are very important to him, and he trusts them to assist himself, but still disrespects his teammates because of his arrogance and heartless greed.[29]

Despite their association, Fang does not often bother naming them, merely calling them "mooks", specifically "Bomb-mook" (Bean) and "Scarf-mook" (Bark).
