A fierce wind blew in the back courtyard of the academy, where all the students had gathered to watch the first-year initiation. All the teachers, the headmaster, and even the kings and noble parents were there, watching from afar. The students filed past quickly, one after another, each summoning their dragon. The nobles summoned large, powerful dragons the size of trees, while the commoners summoned smaller, less powerful ones. Then one girl, a commoner, or so they thought, summoned her dragon. The nobles, as always, laughed and jeered, expecting to see a dragon they would consider "pathetic. "
