Hyunjin

Hyunjin was 26 years old. He worked as a chemistry and English teacher at a school. Teaching two completely different subjects at once required a great deal of training, but he managed. He began teaching at the age of 22, in 2022. And in 2023, he earned another degree and became a school psychologist.

Working essentially three jobs at once was challenging, but Hyunjin truly loved his job. He got along well with the students, managed to remain calm even in the most challenging situations, and always tried to be the adult the students could turn to for help.

That same year he became a class teacher for the 9th grade.

There were currently 28 people in his class: 15 boys and 13 girls. The class was generally quite close-knit, though there were, understandably, problems. Two students constantly bullied the quieter ones, sometimes bringing them to tears, but there was a boy in the class who always defended the weak and told Hyunjin everything.

Overall, a typical 9th ​​grade.

But that's not the point now.

Hyunjin had been their homeroom teacher for three years now, since 2023. During this time, he had gotten to know the character of almost every student and had a rough idea of ​​when a student was truly telling the truth and when they were trying to hide something.

And that's why the new student caught his attention.

Another boy, Lee Felix, transferred to the class for the new school year.

A boy with long, blond hair, freckles, and a kind face, Felix showed himself to be an excellent student almost immediately. He planned to study medicine and had an excellent command of biology, chemistry, and English. English wasn't a problem for him at all—Felix was Australian.

His knowledge of math and history wasn't perfect, but still quite good. His Korean, however, was a bit of a challenge, so he took extra classes.

Overall, an ordinary good student.

However, the reason for his transfer remained unknown.

The first month passed peacefully. Felix quickly made friends, interacted normally with his classmates, did well in school, and didn't seem at all like he had any problems. He wore T-shirts comfortably, didn't try to hide behind his clothes, smiled, and seemed quite happy.

Even his parents seemed like normal people at first glance.

But something still haunted Hyunjin.

He himself couldn't explain why he kept focusing on Felix. Nothing suspicious was happening, no obvious signs of trouble.

Just anxiety.

Some kind of unpleasant, inexplicable anxiety inside.

Another month passed.

November has arrived.

One day, it was a normal chemistry lesson. Felix was sitting in the third desk, near the wall, listening attentively to Hyunjin's explanation. Halfway through the lesson, the boy raised his hand.

• May go out?

• Of course. Go.

Felix quietly left the office.

Ten minutes passed.

Then fifteen.

Then twenty.

There were only a few minutes left until the end of the lesson, and Felix was still not there.

Hyunjin frowned.

He didn't want to think about the bad right away, but that same anxiety inside made itself known again.

Finally he turned to the class.

— Okay, 9th grade, quiet. I'll be out for a couple of minutes. When the lesson is over, get ready and leave quietly. Don't forget to grab your things, as this is the second-to-last period and I'll be locking the door.

“Okay,” someone from the class responded.

Hyunjin walked out of the office and headed towards the men's restroom.

Coming closer, he heard a strange sound coming from there.

Wheezing?

Or a cough?

Hyunjin quickened his pace and walked inside.

And froze.

Felix was standing by the washbasin.

He hunched over, clutching the edge of the sink. The water in front of him was tinged red. His nose was bleeding, and Felix was trying to quickly rinse it away with water and stop it with napkins.

• Felix, is everything okay?

Felix turned around abruptly.

He visibly tensed up when he saw Hyunjin.

• Uh... I just... I just hit myself. Everything's fine...

Hyunjin came closer.

— Felix. Where did the blood come from?

— I really just hit myself...

• Just give me a little time... Please.

Hyunjin fell silent.

He saw that the boy clearly didn't want to talk. There was no point in pressing him now.

"Okay. But, Felix, if it's something serious, I'll help. Just don't try to handle it all alone."

Felix didn't answer.

Hyunjin left the restroom, but the anxiety didn't go away.

The third lesson began—the last lesson before the long break, which lasted forty minutes.

Everything went as usual.

Hyunjin explained the material, the students took notes, someone whispered in the back rows, and Felix sat in his seat.

But towards the end of the lesson, Hyunjin looked at him again.

Felix looked calm.

Too calm.

Hyunjin sighed and finally said:

• Felix, please stay after class.

Felix instantly cringed.

He froze for a few seconds, and then quietly answered:

• Fine...

The bell rang.

The students began to gather their things and leave the classroom. Gradually, the classroom emptied.

Felix remained sitting at his desk.

Hyunjin walked up to him and sat down next to him.

He was silent for a few seconds, choosing his words.

He didn't want to scare Felix. He didn't want to pressure him. But he also wasn't going to continue ignoring what was happening.
