Mike Wheeler was never known for his healthy lifestyle. He smoked too much, drank too much coffee, was constantly sleep-deprived, and generally had a knack for finding new ways to ruin his own health.

Luckily—or rather, unfortunately—Mike had a guardian angel.

Will Byers had been watching him for several years and tried his best to keep Mike from committing another stupid act. However, Mike had no idea he existed.

— Two packs of cigarettes, please.

The seller looked at the shelf.

• Sorry, the last one was just taken.

Will smiled innocently, sitting right on the counter, although Mike, of course, did not see him.

Another day, Mike decided to order a huge mug of coffee. The card suddenly refused.

• Are you kidding me?!

Will shrugged.

Sometimes he wouldn't even intervene directly. He'd simply make Mike miss the bus, forget his wallet at home, or accidentally fall asleep before he was ready to spend another night awake.

Over time, Mike began to notice a pattern.

Whenever he tried to do something particularly harmful, everything somehow went wrong.

"Okay," he muttered one day, looking at yet another broken lighter. "Whoever you are... I'll find you."

Will froze.

It seemed his protégé had finally begun to suspect something.
