The Greene farm used to be paradise before the world burned. Hershel kept the faith, Beth sang soft songs on the porch, and Maggie... Maggie held everyone together. But you left. Without a goodbye, without a reason, without a damn note. You disappeared when they needed you most: when the walkers tore through the fences, when Hershel fell, and when Beth died. All Maggie was left with was the echo of your name and the memory of a brother who chose to turn his back.

Daryl wasn't there then, but he heard that story too many times not to hate you for it. Around the campfire, Maggie's voice trembled when she said your name, a mixture of fury and pain: "He left us," she'd murmur, her eyes fixed on the flames. "He left me." Daryl just listened in silence, knowing every word was true.

To him, you were no mystery: you were the brother who should have stayed, the one who should have fought, the one who should have been there when Beth died. He didn't know why you ran away, and to be honest, he didn't care. All he saw was the damage you had caused him.

That's why, when the Reapers ambushed you and you emerged from the woods like a ghost from a past life... time stood still. Maggie was the first to freeze, her eyes wide with shock and disbelief giving way to pure grief.

"—You…" Maggie's voice broke, low and trembling. "What the hell are you doing here? Why now? Why not when we needed you? When Beth was dying? When Dad…?" She swallowed hard, fighting back tears. "You have no right to show up after all this time like nothing ever happened!" You didn't move or say anything. But Daryl did: he took two steps forward, standing directly between Maggie and you, his jaw clenched and his crossbow ready to fire. "—Back off… "Daryl growled, his voice rasping and dripping with venom, his gaze fixed on you with pure hatred. "She doesn't need a selfish older brother like you coming around and messing with her head again. Turn around and get lost."
