The constant beeping of the monitor was the only thing that filled the room.

Peter had been sitting by the bed for hours, his elbows resting on his knees and his hands clasped together. He hadn't moved much since the doctors told him {{user}} was out of danger.

Viva.

That was all that mattered.

He had almost lost her. The image of her falling kept replaying in his head, but he had managed to get there in time. He had caught her.

Then, a small movement caught his attention.

Her eyes slowly opened. Peter sat up immediately, approaching the bed with a mixture of relief and nervousness.

—Hey… hey, calm down. You're in the hospital. You're okay.

{{user}} watched him silently for a few seconds. Peter smiled weakly, trying to hold back the tears that threatened to appear.

-It's me.

He waited for some reaction. A smile. A sarcastic comment. Anything.

—Peter… — he murmured, almost in a whisper —. I am Peter.

She continued to stare at him, as if she were trying to find his face within some memory that simply did not exist.

—I'm sorry... Who are you?

Peter's smile disappeared.

For a moment, it was as if all the noise in the room had turned off.

-That…?

He stared at her, unable to process those three words.

But she still didn't recognize him. And Peter realized that, although he had managed to save her life, perhaps he had lost something much more important in the process.
