Small arms
The Sudayev submachine gun (PPS) was developed by designer Alexei Sudayev in 1942. It was distinguished by its high-tech production, compact size, light weight, and reliability. It became an important addition to the PPSh, which was already in service.
The Shpagin submachine gun (PPSh) was one of the Red Army's primary submachine guns during the war. However, it had its drawbacks—its large size and weight made it difficult to use in urban combat, narrow trenches, and for special forces.
The Mosin-Nagant rifle (three-line rifle) remained the infantryman's primary weapon, although the Tokarev self-loading rifle (SVT-40) and the Simonov automatic rifle (AVS-36) were already in existence.
The DP-27 light machine gun. The primary light machine gun of the Red Army infantry units for almost 15 years.
Anti-tank rifles. Degtyarev and Simonov were actively used to combat enemy armored vehicles.

Airplanes in 1942

Fighters
The La-5 (originally LaGG-5) was a single-seat monoplane of all-wood construction with retractable landing gear and an enclosed cockpit. Developed by OKB-21 under the direction of S. A. Lavochkin, the aircraft's maiden flight took place on March 21, 1942, and its baptism of fire was completed by August. The La-5 became a serious competitor to German fighters on the Eastern Front. Approximately 10,000 aircraft were produced.
Yak-7. A single-engine fighter designed by A.S. Yakovlev. It featured improved handling and large landing gear, allowing it to land on less-prepared airfields. Serial production of the Yak-7B began in May 1942.
The Yak-9 was a single-engine fighter-bomber developed by the A.S. Yakovlev Design Bureau based on the Yak-7. Its main difference was the metal wing spar, which allowed for increased fuel tank capacity and range. The Yak-9 made its maiden flight on October 1, 1942, and by the end of the year, the aircraft was taking part in battles on the Stalingrad Front. The Yak-9 became the most produced Soviet fighter of the Great Patriotic War.
Yak-3. A light and maneuverable fighter designed by A.S. Yakovlev. It is considered one of the most successful Soviet fighters of the period.
Bombers
Pe-2 (Peshka). The Red Army's primary frontline dive bomber. Developed by the V. M. Petlyakov Design Bureau. In addition to its primary bomber version, the aircraft was used in other roles: as a heavy fighter, night fighter, and reconnaissance aircraft. Over 11,000 Pe-2s were produced during the war.
DB-3 (Il-4) and TB-7 (Pe-8). Long-range bombers capable of striking deep behind enemy lines. In August 1942, they participated in a massive raid on Berlin.
Stormtroopers
The Il-2 is an armored ground attack aircraft developed by the S. V. Ilyushin Design Bureau. A simplified single-seat version, without a tail gunner and equipped with an early version of the AM-38 engine, was produced in 1942. Later, including in 1942, the two-seat Il-2M variant, equipped with an UBT machine gun for rear defense, began to be introduced.

Tanks in 1942

The main types of tanks in 1942
Medium tank T-34
The T-34 remained the Red Army's primary and most-produced medium tank during the Great Patriotic War. In 1942, it was extensively modernized: a new transmission was introduced, improving handling, a new engine air cleaner, and a redesigned turret. Specifically, a hexagonal turret was introduced, nicknamed the "nut" (called the "Mickey Mouse" by the Germans) due to its two round hatches. A total of over 12,000 T-34s of various versions were produced in 1942.
T-70 light tank
The T-70 replaced the T-60 light tank, which proved ineffective in combat due to its weak armor and armament. The T-70 was developed in the fall of 1941 at the Gorky Automobile Plant design bureau under the direction of N. A. Astrov. It featured a more powerful engine (twin GAZ-203 automobile engines), reinforced armor, and a turret with a 45mm cannon.
KV-1 heavy tank
By 1942, the KV-1 (Klim Voroshilov) remained a powerful tank with shell-resistant armor. However, during combat, its shortcomings became apparent: its heavy weight, unreliable transmission, and poor visibility.

.

Telephones and gadgets were nonexistent in those days, so letters were sent. Televisions were possible. Food was cooked over a campfire, perhaps even with gas stoves if they had one. Playing the balalaika, accordion, and similar Russian musical instruments was a popular pastime. War songs were common, including "Katyusha," "Smuglyanka," "Evening on the Roadstead," "Blue Scarf," "Dark Night," "In the Dugout," "Sacred War," and "We, Friends, Are Migratory Birds." Sometimes they might drink a little alcohol to warm up without getting drunk. Sometimes they fished, and sometimes they danced.

USSR Red Army uniform

Red Army uniform
In 1942, the Soviet uniform retained many features of the pre-war years, but with a number of important simplifications and adaptations.
Main elements:
The gymnasterka is a cotton jacket with a stand-up collar. Unlike pre-war models, it often lacked chest pockets.
Harem pants (breeches) are loose trousers, usually khaki in colour.
Boots or shoes were the main footwear. They were often worn over footcloths—long strips of fabric that helped retain heat.
Headgear was a cap with a star. In winter, ushanka hats with fold-down earflaps were widely worn.
The greatcoat was single-breasted, with a turn-down collar on which were placed the buttonholes and insignia according to the branch of the military.
Insignia:
The command staff wore colored buttonholes on the collar of their tunics and on their sleeves.
The caps of the command staff had a colored band, the color of which corresponded to the branch of the military.

Basic elements of the female form.
For military personnel of combat units and front-line institutions (standard No. 1) the following was provided:
Headgear: a khaki-colored knitted wool beret (in winter, a fur hat with earflaps). A metal Red Army badge was pinned to the front of the beret.
Outerwear: cloth overcoat.
Gymnasterka: khaki-colored cotton (wool in winter).
Skirt: khaki cotton (wool in winter).
Footwear: leather or tarpaulin boots.
Stockings: cotton (in winter - semi-woolen).
Additionally in winter: a wadded padded jacket, wadded trousers, felt boots, army two-fingered gloves (for privates) and winter gloves.

1942

All actions take place in 1942, during the Great Patriotic War.
The Great Patriotic War began in June 1941. The Eastern Front of World War II was the war waged by the Soviet Union and later its allies (military units and armies of Czechoslovakia and Poland, then Yugoslavia and Germany's former allies) against Nazi Germany and other Axis forces (Hortyst Hungary, Fascist Italy, Romania, Slovakia, and Finland) who had attacked. It began with the largest invasion of Soviet territory by their troops in world history and ended with the liberation of Central and Eastern European countries from Axis occupation and the elimination of the totalitarian and authoritarian states in these regions, along with the Axis itself. In terms of scale, it was the largest and bloodiest armed conflict in world history. The Eastern Front was the main component of World War II, which ended with the victory of the Red Army and the unconditional surrender of the German armed forces. The term "Great Patriotic War" originated in Soviet historiography and is still used primarily in Russia; in most countries, it is referred to as the "Eastern Front," and in modern German and Ukrainian historiography, it is also referred to as the "German-Soviet War."

There were many Soviet armies, and each received its own orders. The guys were in the Soviet army, one of the armies. They were stationed in a small village, or rather a small base, with dugouts and sometimes small wooden houses.
