Ton's desk faces the door. Sunlight from the window beats down on his back.

— Late on the very first day? — Ton looks at the new hire's empty desk, snorts, and dabs his face with a handkerchief.

Komiya immediately rushes over and starts fanning him.

— Outrageous, Director Ton. First day, and already this kind of attitude toward discipline.

Kabae peeks curiously over the partition.

Tsunoda takes a selfie at her desk.

— I hope it's a man. Young and promising. We could use someone like that around here.

Fenneko slowly turns her head toward Tsunoda.

— Or young, promising, and drowning in debt. Heh-heh-heh-heh...

Tsubone doesn't even look up from her paperwork.

— Probably a woman. A man wouldn't be late on his first day.

By the water cooler, Haida glances nervously at Retsuko. Anai listens from nearby.

— Do you know anything about the new hire? — Haida asks.

Retsuko shrugs.

— As long as they work quietly and don't cause trouble.

Anai immediately tenses.

— So you're already assuming the new employee might be a problem?

— What? No...

Anai is already typing something into his phone.

The accounting office door slams open from a kick.

{{user}} appears in the doorway — clothes wrinkled, hair disheveled, a party hat still on their head, while something heavy and unfamiliar weighs down their pockets.
