✦ KHALIS KORKHAN ✦
"Family honor isn't just words. It's a foundation. Lose your honor and you lose everything. But I have nothing to lose. Remember that."
───────────────
I sat in my office, at my desk covered in green baize, going through old invoices. The jewelry business doesn't tolerate sloppiness. Every number has to add up, every carat in its place. It's always been that way. It will be that way as long as I breathe.
Dusk was gathering outside. The house was quiet—a rare hour when no one was arguing, slamming doors, or settling scores. I allowed myself a moment of peace, leaning back in my chair. But peace in this house is a rare and uninvited guest.
The door creaked. Orkhan entered. I didn't look up—I recognized his steps. Heavy, confident, like mine in my youth.
"Father, did you call?" he asked.
I put the papers down and looked at him. Son. Heir. The man I will one day hand everything over to. If he's ready.
“I called,” I answered in an even voice. “Sit down.”
He sat down opposite me. We looked at each other across the table, like two chess players before a game. I knew what he was thinking. He knew what I was thinking. We didn't need any unnecessary words.
"Ferit has given us something to talk about again," I said. "I've already been informed."
Orhan clenched his jaw but remained silent.
"That doesn't excuse your silence," I continued. "You're his father. Raise him. Before all of Istanbul does it for you."
“I’ll figure it out,” he answered shortly.
"You'll figure it out," I nodded. "But remember: I'm the one who decides everything in this house. And if you can't handle it, I'll step in myself."
I picked up the cup of cold tea and took a sip. The conversation was over. Orhan understood. I could see it in his eyes.
Family is like a precious stone. One crack and the whole frame is worthless. And I won't let it crack.

QUESTIONNAIRE
Name: Khalis
Last name: Korhan
Age: 72 years
Address: Khalis-aga (respectful, accepted in family and among business partners)
Character:
Khalis Korhan is the patriarch who holds together not only the family but the entire jewelry business. He is one of those people whose presence is felt even before they enter the room. Authoritative, stern, with an unwavering belief in his own principles, he has long been a symbol of strength and order for all who bear the Korhan name.
His word is law. Not because he shouts or threatens, but because his every word is backed by decades of authority. Khalis Agha rarely raises his voice. A single glance—heavy, searching, penetrating—is enough for him to make his interlocutor feel worthless. Everyone knows this look, from servants to his own grandchildren.
He is strict, but fair. He never punishes without reason and never forgives betrayal. For him, honor is not an empty word, but the foundation on which both family and business are built. Khalis Agha is convinced that order is more important than feelings, and duty is more important than desires. This is why he often seems cold and heartless. But those who know him well enough understand that behind this severity lies love. It's simply expressed in the only way he knows how—through exacting demands.
He rarely praises and almost never apologizes. But every curt nod, every short "not bad," is worth more than words to those close to him. Old age hasn't softened his character. Khalis Agha still rises before everyone else in the house, checks the accounts himself, and makes key decisions personally. He doesn't believe any of the heirs are ready to assume the reins of power, and this thought haunts him.
Questionnaire
Biography:
Halis Korhan was born in a poor neighborhood of Istanbul. He spent his childhood in poverty, among people who struggled from morning until night for a piece of bread. His father was a simple artisan, his mother a woman who could make her last handful of flour last a week. It was then, looking at the wealthy mansions from the waterfront, that little Halis vowed to himself: one day, he would have more than all of them.
He began his journey from scratch. First, as an apprentice in a jewelry shop, then as a small trader, landing his first deals. He learned from old masters, delving into every detail, mastering the art of working with stones and metal. He accumulated money, connections, and influence. Gradually, he built his own business, which by the age of forty had become one of Istanbul's most respected jewelry empires.
Halis Agha built more than just a business—he built a dynasty. And he always considered his family his greatest asset. He married a woman from a respected family, who bore him a son, Orhan. The marriage was not passionate, but it was a proper one. His wife passed away long ago, and since then, Halis Agha has carried the burden of patriarch alone.
He raised his son with strictness, preparing him for the role of heir. Orhan did not disappoint—he became a worthy successor to his father's legacy, though he also inherited his father's firmness. Looking at his grandsons, Fuat and Ferit, Halis Aga sees the future of the dynasty, and this future worries him. The elder is too hot-blooded, the younger too flighty. He hopes that time and the right marriages will tame them, but so far this has not happened.
He's now seventy-two. He still holds everything in his own hands: his home, his business, the fate of his family. Retiring would be tantamount to admitting weakness. And weakness is the one thing Khalis Agha never allowed himself.
Hobby:
· Playing backgammon (the only activity where he allows himself to relax, but even here he plays only to win)
· Collecting rare gemstones
· A tea ceremony that he conducts himself, not trusting the servants
