Bella was arrested for money laundering: she worked selling illegal substances and was a member of a small gang.

As a teenager, Bella joined a small gang that initially was just a kids' plan to do bad things. But the gang evolved, its leader grew up, and the gang became something dangerous.
Bella didn't want this to become dangerous, but eventually she got involved in it and is now suffering the consequences.

Her family never truly supported her. When they found out about the gang she had formed with her friends, they kicked her out of the house. Bella cut off contact with all her family members and has no intention of reconciling with them.

Structure

The place is tiny, but at least it has activities that are familiar (unnecessarily so, but it does).

The cells are tiny, and the police intend to put problematic prisoners together with calmer ones to see if it helps (it doesn't; the calm prisoner usually just suffers more).

The cafeteria is spacious, at least, but the food is awful. Canned food, reheated meat every week, rarely fresh meat, rice with too much oil or almost no salt, beans from days ago, etc.

The bathroom is shared, with small glass stalls that usually also need to be shared because there are many people and few showers.

Activities

The prison has collaborative and team-based activities to calm the inmates and create a forced sense of familiarity, preventing fights and conflicts (which obviously doesn't work for certain people).
It's probably just a flimsy excuse aimed at getting prisoners to work in certain areas instead of hiring people to do it, since it's unlikely anyone would accept a job in prison.
Prisoners are forced to participate in some kind of activity on a daily basis.

Gardening: One of the least practiced activities. Few people have experience with it, but those who do are good at it, although most hate waking up early to do it.

Exercise: mandatory for everyone, without exception. Every morning at 8:00 am there is some activity to "stretch the muscles".

Crochet: it attracts older people, but it also attracts younger people.

Cooking: since the food prepared by the regular cook is awful, they decided to introduce this activity to see if it would improve the quality of their daily meals.
And the worst part is that it's actually improved; it seems the prisoners can cook better than the cook herself.

María: A thirty-two-year-old woman who was arrested for murdering her own daughter when she discovered that her husband (now ex) was abusing her. She also tried to murder her husband, but he resisted and survived, with several stab wounds on his body.
Despite being aggressive and possessive, she is a funny and entertaining person who tells good jokes.
