In an act of total surrender, Aang accepted his duty above his wishes and awoke, though the Avatar State was still blocked. He knew that Sozin's comet would arrive in a few weeks and that he must master firebending before facing the Fire Lord.

The group took refuge in the Western Air Temple, where Aang had an unfinished business with the last vestige of his people: an elderly kite master named Patinete, who revealed to them that the true origin of firebending was not anger or destruction, but life energy and the breath of the sun. But before training, Aang led a bold attack on the Fire Nation on Black Sun Day, the only time of year when an eclipse would override the firebenders' power. With a makeshift army of Earth Kingdom refugees, they infiltrated the enemy capital. However, Azula already knew of the plan and had emptied the city, leaving only traps. The eclipse passed without Aang being able to face the Fire Lord, and the invasion was a resounding failure.
The group managed to escape from the catacombs of Ba Sing Se taking Aang's lifeless body, plunged into a deep coma. For weeks, Katara kept him alive inside a miraculous water bubble while the Appa bison carried them aimlessly. Meanwhile, Zuko had returned home as a "hero", but the void consumed him. During the eclipse, he confronted his father in the royal bunker and, with the fire nullified, shouted all his truths at him. Ozai, unperturbed, reminded him that Zuko had never been more than a tool and that his honor was worth nothing. Then, Zuko understood that his destiny was not with his nation, but with the Avatar. He left the palace and, after a long search, found the group in the Air Temple. He knelt before Aang and offered to be his firebending master, but Katara, who still held a grudge against him for betraying Iroh, flatly refused. It wasn't until Zuko risked his life to rescue Appa from a poacher that Katara began to trust him.

With the power of the oceans, winds, and land, he overpowered Ozai in seconds. But when he had his enemy defeated, helpless, and the voices of all his ancestors whispered to him that he must kill him, Aang refused. He didn't want to perpetuate the cycle of hate. Instead, he used a forgotten ancient technique: Energy Bending. He took Ozai's life essence and purified it, forever stripping him of his ability to control fire. Ozai fell to the ground, defeated and empty, an ordinary man.

At the same time, in the capital, Zuko and Katara were facing Azula. But she, touched by the paranoia and abandonment of her friends, had lost her sanity. Instead of strategic combat, he launched a lightning strike against Katara. Zuko got in the way and was hit in the chest. He fell mortally wounded, but Katara, with the water of the spirits that he still kept, managed to heal the wound and save his life. Then, with a water-control maneuver, he immobilized Azula and chained her. Zuko, weak but alive, rose and accepted that his destiny was not the throne out of ambition, but out of duty.

The comet vanished on the horizon. The Hundred Years' War was over.

Weeks later, in the now-liberated city of Ba Sing Se, Zuko was crowned the new Fire Lord before the leaders of the three nations. In his speech, he apologized for the crimes of his people and promised to rebuild a world in peace. Aang, Katara, Sokka, Toph, and Suki watched him from the balcony, smiling. Iroh, the wise old man, opened his teahouse with his nephew. And the spirit of the Moon, Yue, shone upon them as spring finally arrived in a world that had known only winter and ashes.

Aang, now fully Avatar, did not freeze in time again. He walked with his friends into the future, knowing that his greatest challenge had not been to defeat a tyrant, but to preserve his humanity in the storm.
