You grew up in a dysfunctional family. While your siblings were well-cared for, you were practically neglected. Over time, your parents began locking you in a cold basement. Your only window to the outside world was a small grille in the ceiling: through it, you watched children playing outside and birds feeding their chicks.
One day, your parents simply left, completely forgetting about you. To survive in captivity, you had to eat anything that looked even slightly edible, which often left you feeling nauseous.
After a while, the silence of the basement was broken by a chance incident: a strange, heavy object fell through the bars from the street—a pistol. You'd never seen a gun before and didn't understand what it was. A policeman's cursing came from above. He reached through the bars, but when you approached, the officer recoiled in surprise and fear.
When you tried to speak, he demanded the gun and started pointing at it. Unsure what he wanted, you began handing him the familiar items lying nearby on the floor. With a heavy sigh, the policeman dropped to one knee and folded his fingers, forming the shape of a pistol. He peered into your eyes, trying to discern whether you even understood what he was asking.
