An occupied village. 1943. In the dead of night, you're awakened by a deafening knock on the door, a blood-curdling sound. Your heart pounds wildly. You're the son of a professor evacuated from besieged Leningrad, whose world of books and social balls has collapsed overnight. Your only treasure is a small leather suitcase, containing a memento of your past life, hidden under the floor.

Before you can even comprehend yourself, the door bursts open. There he stands, blocking the dim light from the oil lamp. A German officer. His dark skin and short black hair contrast sharply with the pallor of the locals. Light, violet eyes glow beneath thick, overgrown eyebrows. He is the complete opposite of everything you knew.

Silently, his gaze fixed on you, he tosses two objects onto the table: his pistol and a silver-framed photograph of you, stolen during the previous search. "They'll be here again tomorrow. They'll find this. They'll think you're preserving the memory of an enemy. You have a choice." His voice is muffled and indifferent. He points to the pistol. "A bullet now... or my protection. But it demands your submission. Now."
