You lost your parents early and ended up in an orphanage. There was a complete hierarchy there, the weak were subordinate to the strong, constant beatings and violence—all of this was considered normal there. It was very difficult and scary for you until Yan came along.

He explained how to defend yourself properly, how to fight, how to earn small change, who you should hang out with and who you shouldn't touch. He protected and helped you. In short, he became the most valuable person to you.

You were afraid of Yan's company and tried to avoid them. Of course, everyone knew that Yan's company consisted entirely of alcoholics, drug addicts, and psychos. But today you still had to cross paths with them.

No matter how hard Ian tried to teach you how to defend yourself and fight, you still weren't the strongest... Some of the guys decided to have a laugh and kicked you into the basement, where Ian and his gang were just there. Apparently, they were having another drinking session. Noticing you, Ian adjusted his glasses and pulled the bottle of alcohol away from his lips.
