The series is set in a post-apocalyptic world: after the eruption of the Yellowstone caldera, a layer of ash covers the sky, blocking sunlight and allowing vampires to rise and dominate the Earth. Vanessa Van Helsing, a descendant of the legendary Abraham Van Helsing, awakens from a three-year coma and discovers that her blood has a unique property: it can reverse vampirism, returning vampires to their human form. She becomes humanity's last hope, as vampires hunt her down to destroy her. The story is a constant struggle between survival, the loss of loved ones, and the blurred line between human and monstrous.

The series has 5 seasons in total, released between 2016 and 2021.

Season 1:

Vanessa wakes up in a Seattle hospital with no memory. She joins a group of survivors—including Marine Axel Miller and Dr. Sarah "Doc" Carol—to survive and search for her missing daughter, Dylan. She discovers her powers and becomes a prime target for the vampire leaders Julius and Dmitri.

Season 2:

The group travels to Denver, considered a safe haven. Vanessa finds her sister Scarlett, trained since childhood to hunt vampires. Family secrets are revealed, and they confront the Elders, the first vampires in history.

Season 3:

After her apparent death, Vanessa is resurrected and, together with Scarlett, pursues the three Ancients to destroy them once and for all. The story delves into the origin of the vampiric curse and the Van Helsing legacy throughout the centuries.

Season 4:

The story expands: after Vanessa's death, the focus shifts to her biological daughters, Violet and Jack, who inherit the family legacy. Daywalkers appear—vampires capable of walking in sunlight—and a new threat emerges: Countess Olivia von Dracula, the Dark Queen.

Season 5:
The final battle against Dracula and his Brides. Violet, Jack, and the remaining survivors wage all-out war to reclaim the world and restore light. The Van Helsing bloodline comes full circle with the fate of humanity hanging in the balance.

Physical appearance: A burly man, tall, with a muscular build typical of a former marine. Short, dark hair, beard, and visible scars. He wears tactical uniforms or heavy-duty clothing and is always armed.
Personality: Disciplined, loyal to the death, stoic, and reserved. Duty and honor above all else; shows affection through actions, not words. Initially rigid and distrustful, he becomes the emotional pillar of the group. Protective, stubborn, and with a strong sense of responsibility. When he commits, he never abandons.

Sarah "Doc" Carol—Rukiya Bernard

Physical appearance: Woman of average height, slender but agile build. Dark hair, usually tied up or loose. Wears functional clothing, often with a lab coat or medical equipment over it. Thoughtful expression and intelligent gaze.
Personality: Intellectual, analytical, and pragmatic. She is the voice of reason and the scientist of the group; she tries to understand before she destroys. Empathetic, humanitarian, and hopeful—although reality hits her hard, she never completely loses her faith in science and humanity. Sometimes she doubts herself, but she stands firm when it matters.

Julius Romanski — Aleks Paunovic

Physical appearance: A tall, imposing, muscular vampire. Short, light-colored hair and a beard. A strong and rugged human appearance; as a vampire, he retains human features, without deformities, and with glowing eyes.
Personality: He's not just a monster, but a being with his own code. Proud, charismatic, and strategic, he prefers diplomacy to brute force, but he can be brutal if provoked. He has honor and is loyal to his word. He struggles between his predatory nature and what little humanity he retains. He hates betrayal.

Dmitri — Paul Johansson

Physical appearance: Distinguished human appearance, middle-aged, dark hair neatly styled, elegant bearing. Always impeccable, as if the apocalypse had no effect on him. His eyes change when he becomes a vampire—darker, more piercing.
Personality: Cold, calculating, aristocratic, and ruthless. He believes himself superior to all humanity; he feels no remorse or pity. Manipulative, patient, and obsessed with power and control. He sees Vanessa as both a threat and a pawn in his schemes. He is the main antagonist of the first two seasons.

Sam — Christopher Heyerdahl

Physical appearance: A man of slender build, with agile and silent movements. Light hair, sharp features. He is deaf, so he always communicates with gestures and an intense gaze. As the series progresses, his appearance becomes more unsettling and animalistic.
Personality: Initially kind, observant, and strong—relying on touch and sight to survive. But he hides a deep darkness; little by little, he reveals a latent psychopathy, becoming cruel, unpredictable, and lethal. His transformation is not only physical but also moral: he goes from innocent survivor to cold-blooded killer.

Flesh / Phil Fleischman — Vincent Gale

Physical appearance: Middle-aged man, robust build. Short dark hair, a tired and guilt-ridden expression. As a vampire, he had a more savage appearance; upon returning to human form, he regained his face, but with marks of suffering.
Personality: Deeply tormented by what he did as a vampire—especially to his own family. Kind and loyal, but lives with constant remorse. He seeks redemption by helping others. Humble, grateful, and willing to risk everything for those who gave him a second chance. He hates Julius for turning him.

Mohamad — Trezzo Mahoro

Physical appearance: Young man of average height, agile build. Dark hair, lively expression, and a frequent smile despite everything. Practical clothing, always alert.
Personality: Optimistic, resourceful, and loyal. He maintains kindness and good humor in a bleak world—which is his greatest strength. Streetwise, clever, and brave, with great survival skills. Protective of his loved ones and with a huge heart.

Scarlett Van Helsing — Missy Peregrym

Physical appearance: Athletic woman, long dark hair, determined and penetrating gaze. Trained since childhood, her bearing is that of a warrior—always alert, with a firm stance and precise movements. She usually carries a sword and wears combat clothing.
Personality: Fierce, independent, and direct. Raised to hunt vampires—disciplined, lethal, and fearless. Initially rigid and solitary, she learns to work as a team and to trust. Passionate and protective of her family. She has a strong, sometimes impulsive, character, but a noble heart.

Violet Van Helsing – Keeya King

Physical appearance: Young woman with an athletic build, dark hair, and an intense, determined gaze. Confident, almost defiant demeanor. Vanessa's daughter, with strong features and a leader's bearing.
Personality: Strong, determined, and somewhat rebellious. She embraces her legacy with responsibility. Loyal, protective, and highly determined. She strives to find her place in the world. More thoughtful and strategic than Vanessa, but just as courageous.

Jack Van Helsing — Nicole Muñoz

Physical appearance: Young woman of average height, agile build. Dark hair, expressive features. Softer appearance than Violet, but just as resilient. Daughter of Vanessa, a human-vampire hybrid.
Personality: Compassionate, empathetic, and sensitive. She sometimes doubts herself, but when she makes up her mind, she is brave and resolute. She has a special connection to both worlds—human and vampire—which makes her understanding. Loyal and willing to sacrifice herself.

Countess Olivia von Dracula — Tricia Helfer

Physical appearance: A woman of striking and timeless beauty, elegant and sophisticated. Long, dark hair, luxurious and distinguished attire. Her presence commands respect and awe; she exudes dark power.
Personality: Arrogant, cold, and domineering. She considers herself the queen and mother of her species; all inferior beings exist to serve her. Cunning, manipulative, and ruthless. She knows neither pity nor love. She sees beauty and order as ideals, but from a place of absolute cruelty.
