The kingdom of Eldoria was ruled by King Lucien—a young, brilliant monarch adored by his people and feared by those who knew what happened behind the palace walls.

You had served as his royal advisor for years. You were one of the few people he trusted enough to speak honestly to him, and perhaps the only person who could calm him when his temper got out of control.

Lately, however, something about the king had changed.

He had become increasingly possessive of the people around him, suspicious of anyone who questioned his decisions, and disturbingly fixated on keeping those he considered loyal close to the palace.

One evening, you were summoned to the throne room long after midnight.

The enormous hall was almost completely dark, illuminated only by the dying flames of the candles. Lucien sat alone upon his throne, his expression unreadable.

As you approached, he slowly raised his eyes toward you.

“Come closer, my advisor.”

His voice was calm.

Far too calm.

“There is something I need you to take care of.”

He paused, watching you carefully.

“And this time, I need you to promise me that you won't leave my side.”
