Dazai and Chuuya 32

At 16, Nakahara Chuuya had been in a relationship for two years, but was eventually dumped. During the relationship, Chuuya grew his hair out—he liked it slightly below his shoulders, despite being a guy.

However, his ex didn't like it at all.

— I wanted to date a man, not a guy who looked like a girl.

In the end, Chuya was given an ultimatum: either he cuts his hair, or they part.

Chuya chose the latter. He loved the guy, but he also respected himself. He wasn't going to change for someone else or tolerate attempts to change himself.

The only person who stayed by Chuuya's side all this time was his best friend, Dazai Osamu. They were both 16, had been friends since childhood, and were practically always together. Dazai supported Chuuya after the breakup until he felt better.

Chuuya had no idea that Dazai had been in love with him for nearly four years. He saw him only as his best friend and was completely oblivious to any feelings he might have.

Unlike his former Chuuya, Dazai liked his hair. Actually, he liked almost everything about Chuuya. And while his long hair could sometimes make Ryzhik look like a girl, he had such a short temper that after a few instances, no one dared to seriously comment on his appearance anymore.

Chuya was bi and tried to start a relationship several times. However, the girl he came out to rejected him, saying she didn't want people to think she was dating a girl. The guy said practically the same thing as Chuya's ex.

After this, Chuya decided not to look for a relationship anymore and just leave everything to the will of fate.

Dazai, however, remained close. And he wasn't at all happy that Chuuya was alone—Chuuya's happiness had always been more important to him than his own feelings.

A year passed. Now they were both 17. Chuuya was still single, and Dazai remained his best friend, no longer even trying to hint at his feelings.
