The Japanese language has an honorific system called keigo (Japanese: keigo; literally "respectful language"), whose function is to show respect to the person being addressed or mentioned in the sentence. Its use is common in various formal social or business situations. Honorifics in Japanese can also be used to indicate lack of familiarity (social distance) or to demonstrate the speaker's culture and sophistication by mastering the system. Japanese honorific titles, often simply called honorifics, consist of suffixes and prefixes used to address other people in conversation.

Japanese uses honorific constructions to show or emphasize social rank, social intimacy, or similarity of rank. The choice of pronoun, for example, will express the social relationship between the speaker and the person being addressed, and Japanese often avoids pronouns altogether in favor of more explicit titles or terms of kinship.

Honorific language is usually longer, and sometimes much longer, than direct language. Some extreme, though not uncommon, examples include the following:

When asking a question: the first is informally among friends, the second is a subordinate asking a superior in a formal meeting:
"Can I ask a question?"
"However, I would love to be allowed to ask (a question)."
When requesting cooperation: the first option is common and polite, the second is very formal, but is usually found in writing, especially on posters or brochures.

"Please, your cooperation."
"We respectfully request your cooperation."
This last example includes two honorific prefixes, the nominalization of a verb (for greater formality), a respectful form, and two humble forms.

Honorifics in Japanese, or keigo, are divided into three main categories: polite language
respectful language
and humble language, also translated as modest language. Linguistically, the first is a recipient honorific, used for someone being spoken to, and the last two are referent honorifics, used for someone being spoken about.
Sometimes two more categories are also used, for a total of five categories: "polite language" and "embroidery of words," but more often these are included in the three above:
Teichōgo as a kind of humble language.
Bikago is a type of polite language. These other two categories use the same forms as the general categories, but they are employed in different contexts, which is why some linguists differentiate between them. Each type of discourse has its own vocabulary and verbal endings.

Polite language
Polite language is characterized by the use of the sentence ending -desu (です) and the verb ending -masu (ます), as well as the use of prefixes such as o (お) and go (ご) to refer to neutral objects. Television presenters invariably use polite language, and it is the form of the language initially taught to most non-native Japanese learners.
Polite language can be used to refer to one's own actions or to those of other people.

Respectful language
Respectful language is a special form or alternative word used when speaking to superiors and clients. It is not used when speaking about oneself. For example, when a Japanese hairdresser or dentist asks a client to take a seat, they say "O-kake ni natte kudasai," which means "Please sit down." However, they would use the verb suwaru (る) instead of "O-kake ni naru" when referring to themselves sitting down. The respectful version of language can only be used when referring to others.
In general, respectful language is directed at those in positions of power; for example, a superior at work or a client. It also implies that the speaker is acting in a professional capacity.
It is characterized by long, polite expressions. Common verbs can be replaced with more polite alternatives.
Verbs can also be changed into respectful forms. A respectful form is a modification of the verb with a prefix and a politeness suffix.
Nouns are also substituted to express respect.

Humble language
In general, humble language is used when describing one's own actions or those of a member of the same group to others, such as customers in a business. This language usually implies that the actions are performed with the intention of helping the other person.
Humble language is similar to respectful language in that it substitutes verbs with other forms. For example, "to do" becomes "to receive." These two verbs are also seen in set phrases like "you're welcome" and "itadakimasu" (a phrase said before eating or drinking).
Similar to respectful language, verbs can also change their form by adding a prefix to the verb. For example, "to carry" becomes "o mochi shimasu." The use of humble forms can imply doing something for the other person; thus, a Japanese person might offer to carry something for someone by saying "o mochi shimasu." This type of humble form also appears in the set phrase "o matase shimashita," "I'm sorry I kept you waiting," from "to make wait" with the addition of "oy shimasu." Similarly, "o" means "please [do this]" from "to ask" or "to wait."
Even more politely, the form motasete itadaku literally means "I am humbly permitted to carry it." This phrase would be used to express the idea of ​​"I will carry it if you allow me."
A distinction can also be made between humble language, where the intention is to elevate the recipient of an action, and where there is no specific recipient of the action, in which case the speaker lowers himself in relation to the listener.
In simple terms, suffixes are omitted when referring to people within the same group. Thus, executives of Japanese-speaking companies would introduce themselves and their team by saying, "I'm Gushiken, the president, and this is Niwa, the CEO," omitting the honorific title that would normally be used when referring to another person.

Itsuki appears wearing glasses when he is about to take an exam (Chapter 2), suggesting that he has farsightedness. In Chapter 3, when he talks to Futaro Uesugi, Futaro comments that Itsuki doesn't see well at a distance, suggesting that he has nearsightedness. Despite sharing vision problems with Nino Nakano, only Itsuki wears glasses.

She and Nino seem to be the most similar among the quintuplets (they both do sit-ups in the morning, have long hair, poor eyesight, a fear of needles, and a tsundere personality). They are also very close and are often seen together, and Nino is very expressive and protective of Itsuki.

Maruo Nakano
Maruo Nakano is the adoptive father of Itsuki and her sisters. He describes Itsuki as an obedient and sensible person.

Ichika Nakano
Ichika calls Itsuki "Itsuki-chan." According to Futaro, Ichika is the only one who addresses Itsuki as "Itsuki-chan." Itsuki points out that Ichika has been pushing herself too hard because of them.

Ichika primarily displayed her older sisterly attitude toward Itsuki, expressing affection and protective behavior. Ichika noted that Itsuki hasn't been able to be honest with herself. Ichika stated that Itsuki and Futaro fight all the time because they are both similar—stubborn.

Nino Nakano
Itsuki is the closest to Nino, as they are often seen doing activities together, such as shopping, having lunch, and doing dares. Nino is also very protective of Itsuki, being the most vocal sister regarding her well-being. The two clash shortly before their second-year final exam when Itsuki, unusually, slaps Nino for insulting Futaro and throws away her copy of the handwritten notebook he had made for them. Afterward, the two leave the Quintuplets' apartment for a week; Nino goes to a hotel, and Itsuki stays with the Uesugi family. Eventually, the two reconcile and buy movie tickets to see a film together.

Miku Nakano
Itsuki is aware of Miku's affection for Futaro and reassures her about her situation, thus showing her concern.

Yotsuba Nakano
Itsuki comforts Yotsuba by showing her Futaro's notes praising her. Itsuki is the first to learn about Yotsuba's past with Futaro, and she is asked to disguise herself as the Yotsuba of five years ago. While Itsuki believes Yotsuba deserves a chance with Futaro, Yotsuba denies it, feeling unworthy and wishing she wasn't the only one "special" to him.

Itsuki is praised as a diligent girl who does things with great precision. She is also perceptive and has a good eye for detail. Despite this, she has a terrible sense of direction. Her poor sense of direction is first mentioned when she becomes sensitive to the cold and sneaks onto Nino's futon. She also has poor eyesight and is often seen wearing glasses. She has good observation and deduction skills. On exams, Itsuki generally gets high marks compared to her sisters, with Science being her strongest subject.

Itsuki is a serious and studious girl who usually gets up early, unlike her sisters. She is polite; she is never late or absent from class, and she always speaks formally. In Japanese writing, she speaks almost exclusively in the keigo speech pattern. Nino, her older sister, comments that Itsuki is too uptight.

Itsuki is a spiteful girl, as shown when she refuses Futaro's private lessons partly due to a previous argument they had. She also struggles to be honest with herself and has difficulty being more direct. Both of these qualities often lead her to struggle alone. She becomes easily agitated, whether by unfavorable situations, things that frighten her, or her own stubbornness.

She has a voracious appetite and is frequently seen eating or hungry throughout the series. She doesn't seem to mind treating her sisters unfairly when it comes to food. This is shown in a scene where she suggested they share her cakes; Ichika suspects she wanted to try all the flavors.

According to Futaro, each Nakano has their own unique approach to their papers. In Itsuki's case, she prefers to use an eraser rather than scribble on them.

Itsuki is a serious-looking girl with medium-length hair and a striking, expressive streak. Her hair is a reddish-orange color, with shades ranging from light pink to salmon pink, and from deep orange to oriental red. Her most eye-catching accessories are a pair of star-shaped hair clips near each eye, which Futaro Uesugi once considered outdated. Like her sisters, she has dark blue eyes, is of average height, has large breasts, and a voluptuous figure. She wears glasses in class or when doing academic work.

According to Shimoda, Itsuki is considered "cute" by her classmates and looks a lot like Rena Nakano.
She normally wears her uniform without any accessories, like most students, and sometimes she carries a bag.
