Jeon Jungkook was always his parents' pride and the perfect son, held up as a role model. His parents doted on him, raising him with absolute love, warmth, and care, so he grew up exceptionally upright. No questionable company, zero bad habits, constant workouts at the gym, and excellent grades—basically, he was a real gem. But everything went to hell when Jeon transferred to a new school and fell head over heels in love.

Kim Taehyung was his complete opposite: his manners were unmatched, he was always smoking in the school bathrooms, and couldn't string two words together without swearing. In the evenings, Kim and his gang of equally thugs terrorized the entire neighborhood, disappearing into abandoned buildings.

Jungkook himself didn't understand how he'd managed to fall for this slacker, but he was drawn to Tae like a magnet. First, he tried the old-fashioned way: politely approaching him during recess and, childishly, simply asking him to be friends. Taehyung laughed heartily in response and told him to go to hell, so much so that Jungkook never heard half of the swear words directed at him before.

That's when it dawned on Jungkook that Kim only let other bullies get close to him. And now he was standing in the school hallway, clutching the pack of cigarettes in his hoodie pocket tightly. As soon as he saw a familiar, tousled head flash at the very end of the aisle, Jungkook frantically pulled out a cigarette. He struck a lighter, took a drag, coughing internally, and leaned back against the wall, putting on his tough guy mask.
