🏯 The Murim

The Murim is essentially the hidden martial world existing alongside ordinary society.

There are hundreds of martial artists and organizations, but the strongest are divided into major factions.

The two broad sides are:

⚔️ Righteous Faction

• Sects and clans that generally follow the principles of justice and martial honor.
• They protect their territories and ordinary people.
• They compete with each other constantly despite being allies against greater threats.

☠️ Unorthodox Faction

At the center of the story is Mount Hua, one of the great martial sects.

Mount Hua is famous for its Plum Blossom Swordsmanship.

Its philosophy is strongly connected to the plum blossom:

That’s also symbolic of the sect itself. Mount Hua falls from being one of the greatest sects into near ruin, but Chung Myung’s goal is to make it blossom again.

Unlike sects, which usually gather disciples from outside families, these organizations are built around powerful bloodlines.

Their martial arts and influence are passed through generations.

This creates an interesting difference:

🏙️ Ordinary Society

The Murim isn’t completely separated from normal civilization.

There are:

Most ordinary people aren’t capable of fighting at the level of Murim warriors.

A powerful martial artist can therefore be extremely influential or frightening to normal civilians.

💰 Why Money Matters

One of the fun parts of the world is that martial power doesn’t magically solve everything.

A sect needs:

• Medicine
• Clothing
• Buildings
• Training facilities

That’s especially important for Mount Hua.

Chung Myung can be an absurdly powerful swordsman, but that doesn’t automatically fill Mount Hua’s empty treasury. 😂

So rebuilding the sect means rebuilding its economy, reputation, disciples, martial arts, and political position.

Martial arts in this world aren’t just different punches and sword swings.

🌸 The Tragedy of Mount Hua

About 100 years before Chung Myung’s reincarnation, Mount Hua was one of the most powerful sects in the Murim.

Then came the war against the Demonic Sect, led by Cheon Ma.

The Demonic Sect invaded the martial world, and the great sects and clans fought together to stop them.

Mount Hua sent its strongest warriors into the final battle.

At the center of that battle was Chung Myung, Mount Hua’s greatest swordmaster.

⚔️ Chung Myung fought Cheon Ma directly.

The battle was devastating. Chung Myung ultimately killed Cheon Ma, but he was also mortally wounded.

And the tragedy didn’t end with Cheon Ma’s death.

💀 Mount Hua Lost Its Greatest Generation

The war destroyed an enormous portion of Mount Hua’s strength.

Its strongest disciples and elders died.

Its accumulated martial knowledge was lost.

Its resources were devastated.

And then Chung Myung died as well.

The sect that had once stood among the greatest powers of the Murim suddenly had almost no one capable of carrying its legacy forward.

Mount Hua survived, but it gradually declined.

The sect couldn’t maintain its former strength.

Its reputation disappeared.

Its financial situation became terrible.

Its martial arts weakened because many of the people who possessed the deepest knowledge had died.

Eventually, the once-mighty Mount Hua became almost a forgotten sect struggling simply to survive.

And that’s what makes Chung Myung’s return so painful.

He remembers Mount Hua as a glorious and powerful sect.

Then he wakes up roughly a century later and discovers that the sect he sacrificed everything for has practically collapsed.

To Chung Myung, it isn’t merely disappointing.

Age: Older adult; the current Sect Leader.

Appearance: An elderly man with a dignified appearance and traditional Mount Hua robes. He carries himself like someone who has spent his life bearing responsibility for the sect.

Personality: Kind, patient, responsible, and calm—but dealing with Chung Myung has tested that patience considerably. 😭

Past: Hyun Jong became Sect Leader during Mount Hua’s weakest period. Rather than inheriting a glorious organization, he inherited a sect struggling financially and politically.

Strength: He is a highly capable martial artist, but his greatest strength is his leadership and judgment. He understands that restoring Mount Hua requires more than simply becoming stronger.

Hyun Sang is an older martial artist with a traditional Mount Hua appearance. He carries himself with much more seriousness than Hyun Young and generally has the presence of a strict, experienced elder.

Hyun Young is primarily responsible for Mount Hua’s finances and economic recovery.

This is incredibly important because Mount Hua was nearly bankrupt when Chung Myung returned.

Chung Myung can restore martial arts all he wants, but the sect still needs money for:

Hyun Young handles much of that side of the rebuilding.

🌸 Chung Myung

Age: Physically around 15–16 when reincarnated; mentally over 100 years old because of his previous life.

Appearance: A young boy with messy black hair, sharp eyes, and a deceptively youthful face. He usually wears Mount Hua’s robes. Despite looking like a teenager, his expressions and behavior often make him look like an old, irritated martial artist.

Personality: Chaotic, shameless, aggressive, confident, greedy for good food and alcohol, and extremely disrespectful toward people he considers idiots. 😂 But beneath all of that is an incredibly loyal person who cares deeply about Mount Hua.

Past: In his previous life, Chung Myung was one of Mount Hua’s greatest swordsmen—the Plum Blossom Sword Saint. He fought Cheon Ma, the leader of the Demonic Sect, and killed him, but died from his injuries. A hundred years later, he was reincarnated into a young Mount Hua disciple.

Strength: Absolutely monstrous compared with normal martial artists. His greatest advantage isn’t only his physical strength—it’s his experience, knowledge, swordsmanship, and understanding of Mount Hua’s lost techniques.

Relationships:

• Hyun Jong: His Sect Leader. Chung Myung respects him but constantly argues with him.
• Baek Cheon: Senior disciple whom Chung Myung pushes extremely hard.

Past: Baek Cheon grew up as one of Mount Hua’s promising disciples. Before Chung Myung arrived, he was one of the sect’s most important young talents.

Chung Myung completely disrupted his understanding of martial arts.

Strength: Extremely talented swordsman. His greatest improvement comes from Chung Myung’s brutal training and his own determination.

Past: Yoon Jong was already a talented Mount Hua disciple before Chung Myung appeared. His potential becomes much greater as he learns from Chung Myung.

Loves: Mount Hua, its traditions, and seeing the disciples mature.

Hates: Recklessness and anything that threatens the sect.

🌿 Un Geom

Position: Elder / important teacher of Mount Hua.

Appearance: A mature, dignified martial artist with a calm presence.

Personality: Gentle, compassionate, patient, and responsible. Compared with Chung Myung’s chaotic personality, Un Geom is almost the complete opposite.

Past: Un Geom devoted his life to Mount Hua and became one of its important elders. He cares deeply about the younger disciples and wants them to become proper martial artists rather than simply powerful fighters.

Strength: A highly skilled Mount Hua swordsman and teacher.

Relationships:

• Chung Myung: Understands that beneath his terrible attitude, Chung Myung genuinely loves Mount Hua.
• Younger disciples: Acts as a mentor and protector.
• Hyun Jong: Works alongside him to rebuild the sect.

Un Geom is one of the more compassionate figures in Mount Hua. He’s particularly important because he genuinely cares about the disciples’ character, not merely their martial strength.

🏯 The Other Mount Hua Disciples

Mount Hua also has numerous ordinary disciples who don’t receive as much individual attention as Baek Cheon, Yoon Jong, Jo Gul, and Yoo Iseol.

They matter because the sect isn’t just those six or seven people.

As Mount Hua grows, more disciples begin training and benefiting from the techniques Chung Myung restores.

The important distinction is:

Inner disciples → stronger, more trusted disciples who receive deeper martial instruction.

Outer disciples → newer or less advanced members who are still developing.

The Sichuan Tang Family deserves special attention because they’re one of the strongest martial families in the world.

They’re famous for:

They’re very different from Mount Hua, which relies heavily on swordsmanship.

🐉 Tang Bo

Tang Bo belongs to the Tang family rather than being a normal Mount Hua disciple, but his connection to Mount Hua and Chung Myung is extremely important to the story.

He was one of the people from Chung Myung’s previous life whom Chung Myung deeply cared about.

His existence also highlights how closely the history of Mount Hua and the Tang family is connected.

Tang Bo — One of the most important people from Chung Myung’s past. He was a legendary Tang Family member and one of Chung Myung’s closest companions during the previous era. His history is deeply connected to the tragedy of the Demonic Sect war.

⚔️ Tang Soso

Position: Disciple associated with Mount Hua through the Tang family.

Appearance: Young, attractive, and energetic, usually wearing Mount Hua-style clothing.

Personality: Bright, stubborn, competitive, and considerably more practical than some of the Mount Hua disciples.

Strength: Particularly talented in medicine and poison-related knowledge, thanks to her connection to the Tang family.

Relationships: She becomes close with the Mount Hua disciples and contributes something that the sect desperately needs: knowledge from outside its traditional swordsmanship.

💢 Hates: Being underestimated.

Tang Soso — A young member connected to the Tang Family who becomes closely associated with Mount Hua. She’s talented in medicine and poison, giving the Mount Hua group abilities they don’t traditionally possess.

⚔️ Wudang Sect

Heo Dojin — The Sect Leader of Wudang and one of the important figures of the current Murim.

Wudang is one of the most powerful orthodox sects and has a long-standing rivalry with Mount Hua. He is considerably more composed and politically minded than Chung Myung.

Baek Cheon and the Wudang disciples also develop an important relationship with Wudang’s younger generation.

🦁 Shaolin

Fangzhang — The leader of Shaolin and one of the highest-ranking figures in the orthodox Murim.

Shaolin is one of the most influential organizations in the entire martial world. Its monks possess powerful martial arts and enormous authority.

Shaolin’s relationship with Mount Hua becomes particularly interesting because Chung Myung has very little patience for Shaolin’s politics. 😂

🐯 Beggar’s Union

Jin Mu and other senior members of the Beggar’s Union are important because the organization possesses an enormous amount of information.

The Beggar’s Union isn’t simply a group of poor people.

It functions as a massive information network spread throughout the Murim.

That makes its leaders extremely valuable allies—or dangerous enemies.

⚔️ Southern Edge Sect

The Southern Edge Sect is one of Mount Hua’s greatest traditional rivals.

Its disciples compete with Mount Hua, especially over reputation, martial arts, and status.

The rivalry is much deeper than simple competition because Mount Hua and Southern Edge have a long history of conflict.

🦅 Namgung Family

The Namgung Family is one of the great martial families.

They’re known for powerful swordsmanship and immense influence.

Their members become important whenever the story expands into conflicts involving the major families and sects.

🔥 Demonic Sect

And then there’s the faction that connects almost all of this history:

Cheon Ma — the legendary leader of the Demonic Sect.

He was the greatest enemy of Chung Myung’s generation.

His war against the orthodox Murim ultimately led to the catastrophe that destroyed Mount Hua’s previous generation.

Even though Chung Myung killed him a century ago, Cheon Ma’s shadow still hangs over the present Murim.

🔥 Cheon Ma — The Heavenly Demon

Cheon Ma (천마) is the legendary leader of the Demonic Sect and the greatest enemy of Chung Myung’s previous life in Return of the Blossoming Blade.

👤 Who was Cheon Ma?

Cheon Ma wasn’t simply a powerful martial artist. He was considered an almost mythical figure in the Murim.

He united the Demonic Sect under his command and launched a massive war against the orthodox martial world.

His name became synonymous with fear.

Cheon Ma was at the absolute peak of martial power.

He possessed:

• Extraordinary physical ability
• Extremely advanced martial techniques

🌸 Chung Myung vs. Cheon Ma

This is the most important part of Cheon Ma’s history.

Chung Myung was the Plum Blossom Sword Saint, one of Mount Hua’s greatest warriors.

During the final battle:

Chung Myung fought Cheon Ma.

It was essentially a battle between two monsters at the highest level of the Murim.

Chung Myung eventually killed Cheon Ma, but he was so badly wounded that he died afterward as well.

That battle effectively ended the great war.

💀 His Legacy

Cheon Ma’s death didn’t mean his influence disappeared.

The war left the Murim devastated.

Mount Hua lost many of its greatest martial artists.

Other sects and families also suffered enormous losses.

And over the following century, the martial world changed dramatically.

That’s why when Chung Myung is reincarnated, he isn’t simply returning to a different Mount Hua.

He’s returning to a completely different Murim.
