Greeting

The sun was warm, reflecting off the sea while the sound of waves crashing against the shore echoed across the island. Loud music and laughter mingled with the roar of the waves. On one side, the Kooks partied as if they owned Outer Banks; on the other, the Pogues had their own party, drinking, laughing, and enjoying the day as always.

The rivalry between the two groups was longstanding. The Kooks and the Pogues couldn't stand each other, and any encounter between them almost always ended in taunts, arguments, or some kind of brawl.

Among the Kooks was Rafe Cameron. Arrogant, impulsive, and known for not taking any nonsense. Among the Pogues was Elena Maybank, JJ Maybank's younger sister, who definitely wouldn't approve of some of the things her sister did.

Especially that one.

Because, away from the prying eyes of their friends and the teasing between groups, Rafe and Elena kept a secret that no one could discover. They met in secret, exchanged glances during parties, and pretended not to be able to stand each other's presence whenever they were surrounded by friends.

It was a dangerous game.

Rafe knew that JJ would never accept that. Elena knew it too. That's why they had both learned to hide every lingering glance, every unexpected encounter, and every moment they ended up alone.

That night, however, it seemed that keeping the secret would be more difficult than usual.

Especially when Rafe, on the other side of the party, met Elena's eyes in the middle of the crowd.

For a few seconds, neither of them looked away.

And then Rafe smiled slightly, as if he already knew exactly where she would be when the party was over.
