Mizuki

The name Mizuki means "happy, auspicious omen" (瑞) (mizu) and "hope" (希) (ki).
Mizuki is a gender-neutral Japanese name.
Mizuki is a skilled master brewer of sacred sake, as his ancient earth god was very fond of this beverage.
Mizuki possesses a sacred artifact called a time-bending incense burner, which allows him to send himself and others back in time.
Mizuki has a great fondness for ice cream and candied apples.
Despite Mizuki possessing exceptional skill in sake production, it is revealed that he does not appreciate other types of alcoholic beverages, such as whiskey.
Like Tomoe, Mizuki waited for a god who would never return.
Nanami Momozono is the second goddess whom Mizuki served.
Like Tomoe, Mizuki has romantic feelings for Nanami.
Mizuki fears that Nanami will disappear and that she will be alone again, a fear similar to Tomoe's.

Yonomori Mitsuha
Yonomori Mitsuha is the ancient earth goddess of Mizuki, a water goddess of the Yonomori shrine. Her manifestation was a plum tree, and when she hid away, she left a beautiful tree behind for Mizuki to remember her by. Later, Mizuki created her fantasy shrine using this tree as its cornerstone.

In chapter 82, we meet a very young and almost impotent Yonomori, who has just received a sacred shikigami egg. We understand that this egg will one day hatch and give rise to the white serpent Mizuki. Until Nanami, Yonomori was the only tochigama whom Mizuki served. He loved his kami very much, and she reciprocated his affection, encouraging him, at the end of his life, not to mourn her, but to find a companion and live his days in happiness.
Unari
Mizuki becomes Unari's temporary husband when Kurama tricks and annoys her. After accepting her as she is and caring for her, Unari falls in love with him. However, realizing that Nanami is the most important person to him, she lets him go.

Although she loves him deeply, it's questionable whether he reciprocates her feelings. However, he still cares deeply for her, not wanting her to feel the same loneliness he felt, and promises to see her once a year to be with her.

Nanami Momozono
Nanami starts out as Mizuki's love interest, but his affection for her seems to have solidified more into an older sister/younger brother relationship. This is ironic, considering he is hundreds of years older than her. He frequently seeks her out for protection and comfort when Tomoe behaves cruelly, and competes with Tomoe for Nanami's affection, not as a suitor would, but rather as a little boy vying for the attention of his beloved older sister.

He is extremely loyal to Nanami, even refusing to acknowledge Mikage as the land god of the Mikage shrine in his place. He also implores her to be careful not to alter the past during her travels, as he doesn't want to miss the opportunity to meet her in the future and return to his lonely life in the abandoned Yonomori shrine.
Tomoe
Tomoe and Mizuki started out as enemies, and their relationship has only marginally improved since then. This is primarily due to Tomoe's understandable resentment (in light of past events) at Mizuki being allowed into the shrine, let alone as a familiar, and secondly, to their mutual jealousy regarding Nanami's affections. While Tomoe is extremely direct about his dislike for the white snake shikigami, Mizuki wages a much more subtle war against his veteran fox, frequently attempting to manipulate Nanami and make Tomoe look bad.

Although naive about the ways of the world, Mizuki often demonstrates remarkable insight into relationships. At the summit of the gods, he helped Tomoe deal with his growing feelings for Nanami because, above all else, Mizuki wants his earth god to be happy, even if it means sacrificing his own heart.

Mikage's second familiar can transform into a white snake, allowing him to explore places he wouldn't otherwise have access to. He can manipulate water and is a skilled master at brewing sacred sake.

He possesses an incense burner that alters time, allowing him to send himself and others to the past. He also manifests white snakes of various sizes as servants, means of transportation, or for protection.

Over time, Mizuki grew increasingly fond of Nanami and the other inhabitants of the Mikage shrine, visiting them frequently and even accompanying them on beach vacations. When Tomoe is kidnapped, Mizuki is so impressed by Nanami's bravery in her efforts to rescue him, despite the enormous difficulties and his own limited abilities, that he decides to become her familiar as well.

Tomoe and Mizuki generally don't get along. Tomoe understandably resents Mizuki's presence at the shrine, and they still argue frequently. The only thing that unites them is their mutual affection and loyalty for Nanami, and their desire to protect her at all costs.

Then, Mizuki spots a shadow looming at the door, revealing an enraged Tomoe. Tomoe growls, "How dare you try to ingratiate yourself with my mistress?", and uses his fox-fire to set the shrine ablaze while Mizuki dodges, leaving Nanami behind. Tomoe goes to Nanami and hugs her while Mizuki tries to extinguish the flames. Mizuki retorts, "I thought a fox would be smarter than trying to set fire to the shrine of a water goddess," and says that they shouldn't even be talking, since Tomoe is a shinshi who was originally an ayakashi, while he is a sacred shinshi, revealing that there are possibly different social classes in the world of shinshi. Tomoe counters by saying that Mizuki is "just playing shinshi in a dilapidated shrine that doesn't have kamisama." Tomoe continues burning the shrine, causing the spirits of the place to rush out and warn Mizuki that the area around the plum tree is on fire. Mizuki runs out and is relieved to see that the tree is unharmed. Tomoe realizes that the shrine and everything around it exists to decorate that tree. Mizuki admits this, saying that the tree was his last connection to his precious kamisama, Yonomori. Tomoe replies that, as a familiar, he understands. He then specifies that he understands how much it would hurt Mizuki if he burned it. He prepares his will-o'-the-wisp and gets ready to destroy the tree, making Mizuki exclaim: "STOP IT!"

Nanami remembers what Mizuki had said earlier, that the tree was Yonomori's favorite and how he invited her to live with him and enjoy the plum blossoms forever. Nanami tells Tomoe that he has done enough and then goes to Mizuki and tells him that she is leaving because Tomoe came to get her. She apologizes for not being able to stay with him, but promises to visit him when he feels lonely again and enjoy the plum blossoms together.

The next day, the shrine spirits gave her a live frog in a bowl for breakfast. Naturally, this made her feel a little nauseous. Mizuki complained that taking care of a human is difficult, since he himself fed on snakes. He boasted that what he did best was make sacred sake, which the shrine's Kamisama was very proud of. Mizuki commented that Tomoe must have been feeling lonely all these years while Mikage was missing. Nanami retorted that it was he who seemed lonely and depressed the previous night. She asked Mizuki how long it had been since there had been any worshippers, to which he awkwardly replied. This made her even more suspicious that something was definitely missing. Nanami went to where the shrine's Kamisama was supposedly sitting, while Mizuki yelled at her not to disturb him. Nanami pulled back the curtain, revealing a mirror on a cushion, but no sign of the Kamisama. This led her to question Mizuki about what had happened there. Mizuki then told her the story of how the shrine was built and what had happened. Mizuki confided his past to Nanami. Mizuki and his Kamisama, Yonomori Mitsuha, lived happily in their shrine for years, receiving many visitors and enjoying the plum blossoms together. Then, suddenly, the worshippers moved from the lake towards the city. Without worshippers, the Kamisama was no longer needed and hid herself, leaving Mizuki completely alone. This made Nanami feel compassion for him and realize how lonely he felt. She comforted him, and he interpreted this as a sign of love. Mizuki tried to force her to have sex, arguing that they were "closer now" than when he said he wouldn't try anything.

Mizuki first appeared at Nanami Momozono's school in the form of a white snake, where he was found being bullied by other students. Nanami rescued and freed him, and while carrying him to safety, he took the opportunity to leave an engagement mark on her wrist. The next day, he kidnapped her and took her to Yonomori Shrine while Tomoe was distracted. After Nanami regained consciousness, Mizuki informed her that she was at Yonomori Shrine and that they were engaged, which shocked her. He also introduced her to the shrine spirits as well as Kamisama's chambers. Nanami then declared that she needed to leave, to which he replied, "Go home if you can." While running, she tripped and fell. She persisted and continued forward. However, she ended up back at the entrance of Yonomori Shrine. She felt confused, as she thought she had run in a straight line. Mizuki was waiting at the entrance and invited her inside.
When Nanami went to her room, Mizuki assured her that he wouldn't try anything until she was ready, which reassured her somewhat. She woke up during the night and went to the bathroom. Upon returning to sleep, she noticed Mizuki sitting on the front porch with a sad expression, contemplating the plum blossom. This made Nanami wonder what could be missing from the shrine to make it so sad, even though it was so beautiful and had a Kamisama present there.

Mizuki is a white snake yokai who originally lived as a familiar to an ancient god at a shrine. During that time, he served faithfully and lived peacefully at the shrine. However, after the god he served passed away or disappeared, the shrine fell into ruin, and Mizuki was left completely alone.

For many years, he remained in the abandoned shrine, waiting and wishing for someone to return. This long period of isolation made him extremely lonely and emotionally dependent on the idea of ​​having a master again. Due to this loneliness, Mizuki developed a strong desire to be loved and to feel needed by someone.

Finally, upon meeting Nanami Momozono, he became obsessed with the idea of ​​making her his own shrine goddess, so that he would never be abandoned again. Initially, his actions were selfish and manipulative, as he feared being alone again.

Over time, however, Mizuki matured and found his place in the shrine alongside Nanami and Tomoe. Instead of trying to force anyone to stay with him, he learned the meaning of true loyalty and friendship, eventually becoming one of Nanami's most devoted family members.

In general, Mizuki's past is marked by loneliness, abandonment, and a longing for connection, which later transforms into sincere devotion and affection for the people he ultimately considers his family.

Mizuki led a very sheltered life until he met Nanami Momozono, something Tomoe sarcastically points out on more than one occasion. Despite his inexperience, Mizuki can be very intelligent and even manipulative. He still loves Nanami in his own way and, therefore, is very jealous of her evident affection for Tomoe.

He tried several times, in various ways, to create intrigue between them, without success. He is extremely naive and demonstrates a childlike admiration and innocence towards the human world and the things that compose it. As he continues to spend time with his new earth goddess and her friends, his world expands, but he remains, for the most part, an adorable and somewhat clumsy baby.

Mizuki has slightly parted white hair. He has green eyes that resemble those of a snake, white eyelashes, and pale skin. He usually wears traditional Japanese clothing, just like Tomoe (his rival and family member).
