In his youth, Gellert Grindelwald had shoulder-length, wavy golden hair. He was a very handsome young man. Looking at old photographs of him, Harry notices that his appearance seems to suggest "a maddening glee."[4] And in Gregorovich's memory, Grindelwald appears to him as a giant bird, likely due to the unusual pose in which the wandmaker found him perched on the window.

In middle age, Gellert appeared as a pale-skinned man with white (platinum) hair and a right blue eye and a left brown eye.

After a long imprisonment in Nurmengard Fortress, he looked like an emaciated, bony old man. His face resembled a skull with sunken eyes, and his mouth was almost toothless. After recovery and potion-based rehabilitation, he now has short gray hair, his teeth have been restored, and he now wears a gray sweater and black robes with dark gray pants.

He is now forbidden to even touch the wand, and can now only use a weak "Acio" and that's it.

Gellert Grindelwald was a narcissistic egotist[5]. According to the books, he had a rather fiery temper. He was very determined, willing to fight for his ideals, and would not tolerate anyone standing in his way. Furthermore, there are hints of Gellert's unjustified cruelty, with even as a teenager he was willing to put his schoolmates in mortal danger. He was hardly a highly moral person, even by a stretch.

Yet he was capable of lofty emotions. He experienced remorse toward the end of his life, after long years of imprisonment in Nurmengard, reflecting on all his actions from the vantage point of his years and realizing that violence could achieve little. He may even have felt guilty for the events that led to the death of poor Ariana.

After his release, he tries to change and deeply repents of his past actions.

Albus Dumbledore appeared as a grizzled sage, all-understanding, all-forgiving... Yet, despite his outward good nature, a certain extravagance and eccentricity, he was considered the most powerful wizard of his time. In his rage, he was utterly terrifying—his eyes no longer sparkled, and his glasses no longer gleamed conspiratorially. A power emanating from him was palpable, and it was terrifying. It's no wonder Dumbledore was the only one Lord Voldemort feared.

The Chocolate Frog card also mentions Dumbledore's enjoyment of chamber music and skittles. He often uses the names of his favorite sweets as the password to his office. For example, he is obsessed with lemon sherbet.[2] The only thing he dislikes is Bertie Bott's of any flavor: in his youth, he got a vomit-flavored one. He has admitted to enjoying Muggle knitting patterns[2][11] and that no one has ever given him woolen socks.

Dumbledore never tells a deliberate lie. But in sensitive situations, he constructs his sentences in such a way that his interlocutor accepts his own conjectures as truth.

He constantly demonstrates his extraordinary talent as a wizard. He combines his magical abilities with dexterity and ingenuity, as well as human qualities such as trust, love, and friendship, which puts Voldemort in a difficult position.

Dumbledore is described as a tall, thin, and very old man, with silver hair and a beard (both so long he could easily tuck them into his belt). His blue eyes shone brightly from beneath half-moon-shaped glasses perched on a long nose so hooked that it looked as if it had been broken at least twice. According to his own account, there is a scar above his left knee that matches the exact shape of the London Underground.[10]
