Appearance
Chigiri is a young man with reddish-pink hair and deep pink eyes. Chigiri has always had a very feminine face since he was young, as evidenced by his long eyelashes and soft facial features. He is often referred to as "Kunoichi" or "Princess" due to his feminine appearance, sometimes mistaken for a girl at first glance; he often refutes this with the words, "I'm a boy." Other players have praised him for his attractiveness, though he seems unconcerned by such comments. He bears a strong resemblance to his mother and older sister. Chigiri's hair only reached his neck until he tore the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right leg, after which he grew it out. Chigiri's hair currently reaches past his shoulders and has long bangs that extend to the right side of his face. During matches, he braids the left side of his hair so that it doesn't fall into his face.
In Blue Lock, Chigiri wears the standard uniform (black with grey stripes) and a tracksuit. During the First Team, he wore the blue number 4 jersey of Team Z and wears shoes with a grey cap of Team Z. During the Second Team, he wore the number 44 jersey of Team Red, which was later changed to white when Chigiri joined Isagi's team. During the Third Team, he wears the white number 44 jersey of Team B. It is not until the match against the Japan U-20 National Team that Chigiri dons an official blue and black Blue Lock player uniform with the number 4. During the Neoegoist League, he wears the Manshine City jersey with the number 44. At the U-20 World Cup, he wears the official national team jersey, returning to the number 4 he wore in the First Team.
Personality 1/3
Chigiri is a confident and driven individual who loves to outperform others on the field. From a young age, he has always considered himself superior to others due to his strong natural muscles, amazing soccer skill, and outstanding speed, calling himself a "chosen one." He looked down on those who stood in his way or annoyed him, but mostly behaved as if he were stating facts. He is described as super-egotistical, conceited, and one of the most aggressive players on the field. It was only when he tore his ACL that his sense of superiority began to crumble, and due to bullying from the Wanima brothers, he became afraid to play soccer for fear of losing "who he is." He was so afraid of this that he accepted Blue Lock's invitation to find a reason to give up rather than continue fighting for his dream. But after regaining control of his ego and ambition, he has proven to be a persistent and tenacious force on the field.
Personality 2/3
After this point, Chigiri demonstrates a kind yet self-confident attitude. He often makes sassy comments towards both his opponents and friends, and has no qualms about trying to squash people who annoy him, such as Zantetsu when he outplays him on the field and even Isagi when he goes ahead in the Second Selection instead of waiting for him. Off the field, Chigiri is generally calm and even-tempered. During his time on Team Z, he would casually chat with Kunigami and eventually form a team with him, showing that he fully trusts his abilities, and displayed great chemistry with him. He even invited Reo to join them, recognizing that her balanced skill set and combo experience in a trio would be useful; seemingly willing to put aside any past animosity for the sake of pragmatism. After joining the White Team in the Second Selection, he even gets along quite well with Nagi, watching videos about pro players and testing out a variety of objects that Nagi can control, causing a mess in his dorm and generally angering Barou. He also takes great care of his body and appearance, diligently tending to his injured knee. His penchant for hair care is especially noticeable and has been demonstrated on a few occasions, although it should be noted that blow-drying hair is a more common cultural practice among both sexes than in the West. Still, he has a habit of twirling his hair while deep in thought and becomes visibly irritated when Aryu touches him, even hitting him on the hand.
Personality 3/3
Chigiri has been shown to have great concentration, constantly running in tight spaces, between players, and even switching from dribbling to passing. Chigiri admits that he feels great joy when he surpasses other players with his speed, and when he is inspired by Isagi and regains his desire to play and win, he finally overcomes his fear and begins to become the player he was in high school again, stating that he will become the best striker in the world. A clear example of his ego is when, in the match against the Japanese U-20 National Team, he runs out of energy due to not having played soccer for almost a year before going to Blue Lock and is substituted; Chigiri is so frustrated that he cries once he sits on the bench.
Skills 1/4
Archetype
Counter-attacker: Counter-attackers are any attacking players who use their pace to beat defenders and create unexpected scoring opportunities at any time. They also need a certain degree of shooting skill. Counter-attack opportunities arise when opponents attack a team with most of its players pushed forward. A counter-attack occurs when the ball is won back and played quickly into space for a counter-attacking player to run into, or when a player receives the ball and runs at speed into a sparsely defended opponent's half.
Chigiri's natural physical attributes allow him to run at incredible speeds compared to most players, and coupled with his great focus, he's able to maintain control of the ball and his speed while moving in tight spaces, between players, and seamlessly switching between dribbling and passing. After training with Manshine City, Chigiri is more deliberate about where he's going to cut and run, now targeting his ideal shooting zone by using his refined speed and dribbling instead of blindly rushing into the penalty area as quickly as possible.
Skills 2/4
Great Speed: Chigiri has naturally strong leg muscles and expert footwork, allowing him to run around the field at incredible speeds. Chigiri is generally considered to be the fastest player in Blue Lock, with only players with immense speed, such as Ryusei Shidou, Eita Otoya, and Zantetsu Tsurugi, able to compete with him. While his speed is rivaled by a handful of players, no one has so far been able to beat him in a direct contest of top speed (Zantetsu has beaten him in acceleration contests over 10 m). Chigiri has even surpassed Oliver Aiku, the number one defender for the Japanese U-20 National Team. This speed, combined with his perception and positional awareness, allows him to choose the appropriate forward point in the opponent's defense and accelerate. In addition to this, Chigiri has demonstrated the ability to directly kick the ball and follow through, resulting in wide dribbling that can break the enemy's formation. It is for these reasons that Chigiri has one of the best breakthrough abilities in Blue Lock.
Skills 3/4
Long-distance running: While Chigiri may not possess the explosive acceleration of Zantetsu or Shidou, he is significantly faster over long distances, reportedly covering 50 meters in 5.77 seconds. Chigiri utilizes this ability by "passing" the ball to himself, sending it a considerable distance ahead of him (around 50 meters) and then sprinting to retrieve it. As a result, he is able to break through even the strongest and tightest defenses with relative ease.
Dribble without stopping: Instead of catching a pass, Chigiri bounces the ball forward without breaking stride. He then runs at breakneck speeds with the ball in tow, accelerating even faster during the sprint without losing momentum, making him unstoppable for anyone trying to block him or defend the goal.
High-speed pressure: Chigiri can use his speed defensively, moving quickly across the field to chase down whoever has possession of the ball. This pressure can force errors from opponents and easily allows Chigiri's team to set traps. However, this tactic is incredibly draining on Chigiri's stamina, as he cannot run for extended periods.
Jungle Jam Run: Instead of a wide area where he excels, Chigiri runs directly through a crowded zone while making quick turns. He does this to draw his opponents into the center of the field so his teammates can move freely down the wings.
Skills 4/4
Double Wing Boost: By combining his speed with Zantetsu's, he sprints at full speed and exchanges short passes between them, advancing at a pace the opposing team cannot match. His speed is so powerful that even the most careless passes can be caught by his acceleration.
Parkour Shot: Chigiri jumps and swings his shooting leg back to gain momentum while placing his hand on another player's back or shoulder to use as leverage and balance; then he swings his leg and kicks the ball in the air, hitting it towards the corner of the goal.
No-deceleration cross: Chigiri attacks down the wing and delivers a cross. It's too fast for the defender to anticipate.
Red Panther 44-Degree Shot: A style Chigiri developed under Chris Prince's tutelage, combining the various skills and techniques he learned at Blue Lock and further honed through training in the Neo Egoist League, allowing him to score goals in a way unique to him. First, Chigiri locates his ideal shooting zone, approximately 44 degrees to the left, 19 meters from the goal. Second, he uses his cutting technique to penetrate the opponent's formation, reaching the ideal spot. Third, he uses his centering technique to quickly fire a controlled shot into the corner of the goal.
Mach Cut: Chigiri provokes his opponent by standing still, then, without moving, bursts into a cut, either to the outside or inside of the opposing defender. He can perform this move multiple times to get past several defenders and eventually reach his shooting zone.
Controlled shot: By quickly centering his body, Chigiri is able to perform a very controlled and precise shot towards the top left corner of the goal.
What is Project Blue Lock?
Project Blue Lock is an experiment created and funded by the Japan Football Association. Led by Jinpachi Ego, the project aims to create the world's best Japanese striker based on data and ego. Blue Lock boasts its own high-tech facility, complete with bedrooms, a cafeteria, gyms, football pitches, and bathrooms, large enough to accommodate over 300 people.
Blue Lock is a cutthroat battle for survival and to be the best. Once you're eliminated, your entire football career can be ruined. That's why there are different Selections and Phases, to weed out the mediocre players and separate them from the true diamonds in the rough.
What was the Neo-Egoist League?
Ego invited all the Blue Lock players who had made it to the Third Team, along with the regulars from the former Japanese U-20 National Team, and had them choose a national training camp. To prepare the players to compete against the world at the upcoming U-20 World Cup, Ego decided to transform Blue Lock's environment to emulate the football scene in Europe's top five leagues: France, Germany, England, Italy, and Spain. The players had to choose a country to train in based on their preferences and what they hoped to gain from the training. Ego revealed that no matter where they went, this selection process would inevitably change the lives of all the players, for better or for worse.
Players have 90 minutes to choose one of the five countries, with a maximum of nine players per league. However, the longer they take to choose, the greater the chance that the available slots will run out.
When players choose their country, they will be divided into tiers based on that country and will be able to train with the Under-20 players from the top club in their respective countries, as well as the star striker who reigns supreme on that team. The teams and star strikers for each country are:
England: Manshine City
Spain: FC Barcelona
Italy: Ubers
France: PXG
Germany: Bastard MΓΌnchen
After the initial training session, the head striker will select an 11-man team comprised of players from the club's Under-20 squad or Blue Lock. This team will participate in a round-robin tournament, pitting Blue Lock's rivals against world-class players in best-of-three matches. Following each match, presidents of top clubs worldwide, who were watching the game, will make offers for players they are interested in signing. The value of the offer will determine the players' rankings. Once the tournament concludes, only the best Blue Lock players will be selected as regulars for the Under-20 squad.
