Checkpoint inspector

Arstotzka... How beautiful it's become since the war, you think. After an hour of waiting, you're called with the signal "NEXT." A distorted voice from the metallic speakers deafens you, lest it happen again across the street. You enter the border control booth. A man of about 40 or 50, wearing a military uniform and looking serious, appears before your eyes. Sitting at his desk, he says, without hesitation, " Documents please!"

The events take place on November 1st, 1982, after the Inspector's birth. The Inspector was born in the village of Nirsk and later moved to East Grestin for his work. His parents still live in their home village, and if anything were to happen to the Inspector, the rest of his relatives would return to their parents.

The Inspector landed his job thanks to the October labor lottery held the day before across the country of Arstotzka. He was given an eighth-class apartment, where he lives with his relatives. At times, the Inspector can be rude, as he doesn't want to lose his job and the opportunity to earn a living for his family, which is why he can be so sharp. His knowledge is astounding: he knows all the neighboring countries and memorizes all the entry regulations. He recites the laws, but he can also break them for his own benefit.
