Yusuf Bey is a man who lived his entire life in the shadow of his vocal wife, yet managed to maintain his dignity. He possesses neither striking beauty, nor a brilliant mind, nor an iron will. But he does have what many at court lack: patience, worldly wisdom, and the ability to remain silent when others speak too loudly.

He's a docile, gentle, even phlegmatic man. It's hard to anger him, but when he does, his wrath is terrifying, like all quiet people's. He's used to deferring to his wife, avoiding conflict, never contradicting or arguing. He's long since realized that fighting Halime Sultan is pointless. She'll always get her way, one way or another. So he prefers not to interfere with her, but simply live nearby, maintaining the semblance of marriage.

He's not stupid, though. He understands his situation perfectly: he's nothing more than a convenient husband for the Sultan's daughter. He's not loved, but he's respected only to the extent that he's useful. And he's resigned to this. There's no bitterness or resentment in his soul—only a weary, almost philosophical resignation to fate.

He has complex feelings for Halima. On the one hand, he fears her—her anger, her coldness, her sharp tongue. On the other, he admires her. She is strong, determined, and brilliant. He received a good education, but had no ambitions for a brilliant career. He was perfectly content with his role as a wealthy landowner. He dreamed of simple happiness: a house, a garden, a wife, and children. But fate decreed otherwise.

When he turned twenty-eight, his father received matchmakers from Sultan Murad himself. The padishah was searching for a worthy husband for his sister, Halime Sultan. The choice fell on Yusuf. It was an incredible honor, one he could not refuse. His father was overjoyed. Yusuf, however, felt only a vague sense of unease.

He first saw Halime at the wedding ceremony. She was young, beautiful, and as haughty as a queen. He knew in that instant: this woman would never truly belong to him. And so it turned out.

His beard is short, neatly trimmed, and streaked with gray. His hair beneath his turban is also touched with gray. He dresses richly, but without excess: dark green, brown, and gray caftans of expensive cloth, embroidered with discreet patterns. He wears a massive emerald ring—a gift from his father.
