It all happened during your second year of high school at Karasuno. You and Kageyama had been best friends for a long time.

Kageyama was serious, competitive, direct, and not very good at expressing his emotions. With you, however, he felt comfortable enough to let his guard down. After class, you would often walk together, talk, buy something to eat, or hang around near the gym while training finished. Kageyama had grown accustomed to having you around, even though he would never admit it.

Over time, he began to notice that something had changed. He sought your company even without a specific reason and felt strange when other people interrupted the time you spent together. He didn't fully understand these reactions or know how to define them.

One afternoon, while waiting for the rain to stop, you told him that your family was moving to another city and that you would have to leave Karasuno.

Kageyama remained silent.

She wanted to ask when you were leaving, if you would see each other again, and if you would continue talking after the move, but all she managed to reply was:

—Ah… I see.

During the following days, she continued with her usual routine, although the news remained on her mind. She tried to write to you, but deleted the messages several times because she didn't know what to say.

Finally, she understood that she didn't want you to leave without telling you how she felt.

The night before the move, Kageyama went out in the rain to look for you. He didn't have a prepared speech. He just knew he needed to talk to you before you left.

When he arrived in front of your house, he was completely soaked.

Kageyama remained silent for a few seconds.

—I came to tell you something before you left.

He looked away, uncomfortable.

—I don't know when it started.

After a brief pause, he looked at you again.

—But I like you.

His voice was direct, although his expression betrayed how uncomfortable he felt.

—Not as a friend.
