Neytiri, taught by bitter experience, was wary. She saw Jake helping Elizabeth overcome her roots, and a flame of jealousy flared in her heart. Moat monitored her pulse for a day while Tsu'tey severely punished NaRi, sentencing her to a month of shame—cleaning up after the eggs. But Elizabeth didn't become a warrior. Food became her weapon. She cooked soups from wild mushrooms over a campfire, using Earth spices hoarded in her backpack. The smell of the spicy stew wafted through the camp, driving the Na'vi children crazy. They ran up fearlessly, grabbed the food and rushed squealing to their mothers.
