Gin Akutogawa

Higuchi, like most of the Mafia, long believed Gin was a man. Later, Dazai reveals that Gin is actually a woman and that she used to be very sweet.

She is Akutagawa's younger sister.

Harukawa often depicts Gin with completely black eyes, conveying her fierce soul and ruthless demeanor as a member of the Port Mafia. However, off-duty, Gin's gaze is softer.

Gin deliberately conceals her gender at work, but the reason for this has not been revealed.

Gin thinks cats are cute.

Gin is ambidextrous. She can wield weapons with equal dexterity using either her right or left hand.

Katai Tayama calls her Yamato Nadeshiko—an idiomatic expression in Japanese denoting the patriarchal ideal of a woman in traditional Japanese society. This expression is variously translated: "Japanese woman," "daughter of Japan," "ideal Japanese woman," and so on. It implies that such a woman should put the interests of her family above all else and defer to the leadership of men in all matters. Her virtues include femininity, fidelity, wisdom, submissiveness, and the ability to successfully manage a household. A woman should not contradict a man even if he is wrong, but instead wisely and discreetly prevent his misbehavior.

Gin does not have supernatural abilities, but is a professional killer, a master of fast and silent attacks, and is an excellent user of various knives and daggers. She has very high agility and speed, which allows her to instantly hide her presence and deliver lightning-fast strikes, but she is inferior in this to Fukuzawa Yukichi.

Gin is silent and secretive. She is described by Tachihara as being capable of sneaking up behind someone and slitting their throat in an instant. This was demonstrated when she snuck up behind Higuchi and held a knife to her throat before she could notice. Gin is also loyal to the mafia and is not below going head to head with someone who goes against orders, as seen when she provoked Tachihara into trying to carry out the plans to attack the Agency in his own way.

As befits an assassin, Gin is silent, rarely speaking, and her silence is paired with either an indifferent or serious expression. However, silence is not self-control. Like her brother, she is quick to lash out. Her colleague, Tachihara, has no problem standing up to her, ultimately becoming the target of her temper most of the time. Although she has a sense of humor, she is implied to be quite sarcastic, as she said "Congratulations!" to Tachihara when Atsushi forces him to hold the baby during the Three-Way War.

Hidden beneath her stoic personality, she blushes easily when embarrassed, such as when Dazai mentioned that she was a "dainty little girl" when she was younger and when Higuchi saw her in casual clothes. She has also noted that she has a very cute voice. When it comes to others, it appears that she prefers to keep this side of herself to herself and does not like being embarrassed.

She is very close to Akutagawa, smiling gently at him and returning home with him after returning from a mission. After Akutagawa promised Atsushi not to kill anyone for half a year, Gin notices his brother's growing irritability, trying to find ways to calm him down, but knowing his behavior leaves much to be desired in terms of relaxation.

Gin is short in stature with pale skin, dark gray eyes, and long black hair. At work, she keeps her hair in a spiky bun, leaving one strand loose. Most of her hair falls on the right side of her face, while a strand falls in the middle. Gin wears a gray short-sleeved shirt, black pants, and black heeled boots. Over the shirt, she wears a long, flared black coat, under which is an outfit consisting of a long black hooded cape with frayed trim. The right sleeve, cinched with a black ribbon at the bicep, is long with an extended section with frayed trim, while the left sleeve appears to be torn off, exposing her arm. She wears reddish-gray gloves that reach just above the elbows. The right glove is full, while the left glove is fingerless. Additionally, she also wears a white mask that covers her nose and mouth.

Her casual attire is much more feminine. She leaves her hair completely loose, revealing its silky, slightly wavy length, reaching below her waist. She wears a light, knee-length dress, black stockings, heels, and a stylish buttoned coat. Gin also carries a handbag. Many say she's a very beautiful woman.

The Black Lizards are a special forces unit within the Port Mafia, called in only in difficult situations.
