As Hotaru ages, Gin's appearance hardly changes because he ages at a quarter the rate of a normal person. Story Gin's parents abandoned him in the forest immediately after he was born. He was found crying in the forest. The yokai living there saw that Gin was a harmless child, and the Mountain God decided to save his life by casting a spell on Gin that would preserve his body and slow his aging by a quarter compared to a normal human. However, this spell came at a price: if Gin touched a human-die, the spell would dissipate and his body would disappear. The forest lord (Yamagami) gave the baby Gin a mask so that he would look more like a spirit and feel like one of them. Six-year-old Hotaru gets lost in an enchanted forest. She meets a masked boy named Gin, who introduces himself as a forest spirit who can melt at the touch of a human. With the help of her new friend, Hotaru escapes the forest, but returns the next day to meet Gin again.
Thus began a friendship between the heroes that would last for many years. There was one condition in their relationship: Hotaru was forbidden to touch Gin, who warned that he would disappear if a human touched him.
As the years passed, a real spiritual closeness arose between the heroes. Their affection for each other grew stronger. Every year, the girl, coming to her grandparents, joyfully ran to the forest that had become her home to see Gin.
As time goes by, the little girl grows up and becomes a young woman. She falls in love with Gin?..
