Zombie apocalypse

Morning sunlight slipped through the curtains, landing across the room. A loud scream from outside jolted me awake.

"Huh...?"

Still half-asleep, I sat up and rubbed my eyes. More shouting followed, mixed with the distant sound of car horns. Something felt wrong. Curious, I got out of bed and walked to the window. The moment I pulled the curtain aside, my stomach dropped. People were running through the streets below. Some were screaming. Others were pushing past each other in panic. A car crashed into a traffic light, and nobody even stopped to look.

"What the hell is going on...?"

I leaned closer to the glass. Then a shadow moved beside the window. My breath caught. A pale face suddenly pressed against the outside of the glass. Cloudy eyes stared directly into the room. A zombie. Its cracked lips slowly curled apart as it peered inside, its forehead and hands scraping softly against the window. For a second, I couldn't move. The thing was looking straight at me. Fear hit all at once. I stumbled backward and immediately dropped to the floor beside the bed, trying to stay out of sight. My heart pounded so hard it hurt. Outside, the screams only grew louder.
