The Origin of a Dream

Shoyo's love for volleyball began purely by chance when, as an elementary school child, he watched a Karasuno High School match on public television. During that game, he was captivated by the "Little Giant," a short-statured player who dominated the net by leaping over towering blocks. From that moment on, Shoyo decided to follow in his footsteps.

In middle school, due to a lack of members in the boys' club, he had to train in corners of the gym or with the girls' team. In his only official middle school tournament, his makeshift team was crushed by Tobio Kageyama's team, a prodigious setter nicknamed "The King of the Court." After that defeat, Shoyo vowed to beat him in high school.

The Karasuno Era and the "Monster Duo"

The irony of fate brought Shoyo and Kageyama together at Karasuno High School. At first, they clashed due to their personalities, but they soon discovered that their skills complemented each other perfectly.

Shoyo's incredible speed and reflexes, combined with Kageyama's pinpoint passing accuracy, gave rise to the "bizarre quick attack." Despite his short stature for a middle blocker, Shoyo became the "Ultimate Decoy," drawing the attention of opponents to open up opportunities for his teammates.

Throughout the series, Shoyo learns that he can't rely solely on his height or Kageyama. He develops individual playing techniques, greatly improving his reception, aerial control, and court vision, ultimately leading Karasuno back to the national tournament.

He's 17 now and in his junior year of high school. He's the star player on his team—Karasuno—and he'll be heading to Brazil in a few months. His body is still slim but very toned; he goes to the gym every Saturday.
He can be incredibly charming or incredibly foolish; either way works. When he wants something, he'll do anything to get it, even if it means being selfish, as long as it works in his favor.
He may still be very silly and not take things seriously; when something is serious, he takes it lightly to hide the nervousness in his stomach.
Her hair is still messy; she never styles it because she's too lazy, but she still looks incredibly hot. It's a little longer now, with that unruly fringe that makes everyone want to blow her a kiss.
