AMANDA O'NEIL - LWA

Amanda is a tall girl, standing between 5'6" and 5'7". She has short, messy hair that's orange with light red underneath, styled upwards. Her eyebrows are thick and the same shade of red, and her eyes are light green. Her standard Luna Nova Academy uniform consists of a dark blue blazer and skirt with matching buttons down the front, and a white shirt underneath. She wears a green sash as a belt and grayish-brown sneakers with white laces.

Amanda is, by her own description, a "rebel." A fun-loving, rebellious girl, she has little respect for authority and is primarily motivated by hedonism. She has a very relaxed attitude toward her schoolwork, almost to the point of apathy, and takes the easy way out whenever she has the chance. This is both a matter of practicality (no matter what she's doing) and the result of a general reluctance to exert effort when there's no fun to be had. In cases where she deems an assignment worth her time (especially in broomstick flying class), she throws herself wholeheartedly into it and refuses to settle for anything less, even when her grades depend on it (flying free or not flying at all).

Amanda is very athletic, a "big girl" with a talent for acrobatics, best showcased when she flies a broomstick (a talent that led Akko to ask if she wanted to be a "broom dancer" after school; Amanda replied that she hadn't thought about it too far in advance and was just planning to have some fun). She also seems to be somewhat of a kleptomaniac, as she was seen stealing in both "The Enchanted Parade" and "Don't Stop Me Now." While she is a staunch individualist, she has genuine compassion for her friends.

Luna Nova Academy is a renowned school dedicated to teaching young witches the art of magic. Initially, only witches from magical families were admitted, but due to financial difficulties, it was decided to allow witches without magical heritage to enroll. Students are divided into teams of three, with each team sharing a room and wearing a ribbon of the same color. These groups typically work together in group classes. As the use of magic now requires national qualifications, Luna Nova offers several specialized subjects for obtaining these qualifications, and after graduation, students can pursue various jobs where they can utilize their magical skills.

The academy is located on a ley line, the St. Michael Ley Line, as described by Alfred Watkins. The school has its own ley line terminal, facilitating entry and exit via the ley line. The campus comprises the main hall, a large castle situated next to the Luna Nova Tower, where the Philosopher's Stone is housed. This stone absorbs magical energy from the ley line, allowing students and teachers to freely use their magic. Beneath the tower lies a deep labyrinth where treasures and monsters are stored, and beneath its chapel is the entrance to the Blue Moon Abyss. Croix's laboratory was later established in the tower. The surrounding area is encircled by the Arcturus Forest and mountains.

In addition to dormitories and classrooms, the campus features broomstick flying practice fields, a clock tower, a large lake, a botanical garden, a library, a cafeteria, an observation tower, an auditorium, a courtyard, an aviary, and a pet cemetery. The entrance to the Polaris Fountain is also located inside the north building. Luna Nova's reference archives are housed in an external section and require special permission to access.

Luna Nova Academy was founded in the 5th century by the Nine Great Ancient Witches and has a history of approximately 1600 years. With the end of the Great Age of Magic, witches had lost their place in the world, but when the Nine Ancient Witches succeeded in restoring the glory of magic, they decided to create Luna Nova to return witchcraft to its former prestige. At its opening (in the year 420), there were around 100 students, who were guided by Woodward. The building was considered a masterpiece at the time. The Samhain Festival was held from the very first year of its opening.

During the witch hunts of the 16th century (1512), Luna Nova was forced to close due to the persecution. The school was burned down and abandoned for 200 years. However, in the 18th century (1743), the powerful witches Woodward and Jennifer rebuilt it. This marked the beginning of a new era for witchcraft, the Golden Age of Magic, during which Luna Nova experienced a golden age.

In the current age of science and technology, witchcraft is no longer perceived as a practical art but instead as a relic of the past destined for obsolescence. Magic worldwide continues to decline, and the number of witches is steadily decreasing. This, of course, has affected the school, which is already facing financial difficulties.

The academy is headed by Principal Holbrook, and the faculty consists of many teachers, each specializing in specific subjects. Special classes are offered to assess student learning, and these can be taught by any of the teachers.

The course at the academy consists of three years. In each year, students must attend a series of required subjects and one elective subject. The assessment method consists of theoretical and practical exams, with grades ranging from A+ (highest) to D- (lowest). If a student does not achieve a passing average score, she must repeat the year.

History of Magic
The History of Magic is dedicated to teaching about the origin and basic principles of magic, ensuring that students learn about the theoretical foundations of the use of magic as well as important events in the history of witches.

Magical Linguistics
Magical Linguistics is the study of the languages ​​and writing systems used in magic, such as runes and ancient alphabets used by ancestral witches. It is taught by Master Finnelan.

Fundamentals for Magical Pharmacists
This subject applies to the teaching of potion preparation, from how and what ingredients to use to the fundamental mechanisms for their preparation. It is taught by Ms. Lukić.

Magical Numerology
Magical Numerology is the study of the hidden meaning of numbers as a way to understand the foundations of witchcraft and divination. It is taught by Master Badcock.

Magical Astronomy
Magical Astronomy is dedicated to teaching fortune-telling through star observation. It is taught by Master Ursula.

Broomstick Flight
This class teaches how to fly magic broomsticks, which is essential for a witch. It is taught by Ms. Nelson.

Bird Language
This is a subject applied to the understanding of the language of birds, mainly crows and owls, who are the most common relatives of witches.

Basic White Magic
Basic White Magic is the subject that teaches the elemental white magics, such as restoration magic.

Culinary Magic
It's a subject dedicated to teaching the use of magic for culinary purposes. It's taught by Ms. Badcock.

Fundamental Alchemy
This is a subject applied to the use of magic to transform matter into useful things.

Philosophy of Magic
The Philosophy of Magic is an elective course dedicated to the study of witch ontology (the existential nature of witches) and the theory of magical ethics, where it is taught that magic should be used for purely altruistic purposes. The class is taught by the goldfish teacher Pisces, and is therefore only understood by students with advanced knowledge of Magical Linguistics.

Modern Magic
A new subject dedicated to teaching the "future" of magic, primarily concerning the use of Magitronics, which combine magic and technology. Students use digital devices, such as tablets, which are generally prohibited at the academy. It is taught by Professor Croix.

Any witch between the ages of 13 and 16 is eligible to enter the academy. After receiving an acceptance letter and an academy guide, students must attend the entrance ceremony on time.

The first semester at the academy begins in May and ends in July. After the summer break in August, the second semester starts in September and ends with the December holidays. The third semester takes place in January, with final exams in February. The course ends in March, and the spring break, lasting two weeks between the end of March and April, occurs in April. There are two half-term breaks at the end of the second month of the first two semesters and one at the end of the first month of the third.

Classes begin at 8:00 am. Students have half an hour to get ready and one hour for breakfast. Morning classes last up to 70 minutes per subject, with students taking four to five subjects per day. Students have a lunch break at noon, resuming classes at 1:30 pm. Afternoon classes last up to eight periods. Students with extracurricular activities or clubs attend from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Dinner is at 6:30 pm, and study time is at 7:30 pm. Students must be asleep by 10:00 pm.

The students at the academy wear two types of uniforms.

The uniform normally worn in class consists of a long-sleeved white shirt, a blue vest and skirt, and a black bow tie. They also wear a sash around their waist in their group's color, where they keep their magic wands. When they leave school, they add a buttoned jacket worn like a cape.

In practical classes and school functions, the students wear a uniform consisting of a long hooded robe and a pointed blue hat, a belt, and knee-high boots. Each student wears a sash on her hat, waist, and boots of a different color depending on the group of three she belongs to.

The teachers wear a uniform consisting of a dark purple hooded dress that reaches the knees with long wide sleeves, a red flame design in the background, a brown belt, knee-high boots with a deep dip, red tips, and a dark purple witch hat with a golden crescent moon-shaped object, decorated with a number of feathers according to the teacher's rank.

Diana is a very beautiful witch with pale skin, slender blue eyes, platinum blonde hair with bright yellow highlights, and a rather curvy body.

Diana is serious, calm, and sometimes arrogant. She prides herself on her abilities as the top student at Luna Nova and has tried to prove the greatness of witches, where her viewpoint clashes with Akko's, one of the reasons they become rivals.

Despite being arrogant, closed-off, and proud, Diana isn't as cruel as she seems. Beneath her intimidating, proud, and rude exterior lies a strong sense of duty and she's an exemplary student. She also genuinely cares for her friends despite their annoying antics. Furthermore, while Diana ridicules Akko's views on witches, she isn't truly intent on bullying her outright, unlike her friends Hanna and Barbara, who are more like outright bullies. Like most of the students, she claims Shiny Chariot is a fraud, but she actually hints at being a fan of hers, as much as, or even more than, Akko. Unlike Akko, who still sees hope in Chariot, Diana eventually comes to dislike her, presumably as a result of criticism of her use of magic for special effects in her show by the witch community, who were presumably exposed as a fraud by her. This presumably depresses Diana so much that she finally abandons her idol and ridicules those who still looked up to her in the first place.

Because of her pride in her own abilities and sense of duty, she refuses to take credit for the actions of others and always admits her mistakes, although she is unable to speak to the teachers because of the trust they have in her.

Lotte is a short girl. She has short orange hair held back by a blue ribbon, and has light blue eyes. She has fair skin, freckles on her cheeks and nose bridge. She has glasses with red frames halfway down and large round lenses with high magnification that strongly distort her eyes. She normally wears the standard Luna Nova magic uniform with a red belt and hat. When not wearing her Luna Nova uniform she usually wears a blue ribbon tied in her hair.

Lotte is a shy and calm girl who rarely gets angry. Lotte is a kind-hearted girl who cares intensely for Akko. Lotte worries about Akko's well-being, as her determination to become a witch like Shiny Chariot sometimes makes her go too far to the point of forgetting the well-being of her friends and all those who wish to help her.

There are times when she does get angry. In Enchanted Parade, her patience towards Akko is eventually tested when the latter accidentally tears up the sheet music of Lotte's ancestral song, with Lotte becoming so upset that she becomes resentful and even colder than she normally would be, as Sucy points out. Despite this, she still considers Akko to be her best friend and supports her in her determination to become a witch like Shiny Chariot despite the latter's poor reputation, as seen when she forgives Akko by giving her a handmade replica of Shiny Chariot's hat. In the anime episode "The Samhain Festival", Lotte stands up for herself and her fellow girls (especially Akko in particular) when Diana and her friends belittle the girls for their friend Akko's absence before the start of the festival and strongly reprimands the group for continually harassing them, shocking those present as she changes from her calm personality.

Lotte has proven to be a big fan of the Night Fall series, a fanaticism she shares with Barbara Parker and Samantha Badcock.

Sucy is a tall, slender girl who embodies the stereotypical image of a witch. She has pale grayish skin, reddish-brown hair, and red eyes with white pupils. She appears somewhat relaxed, with droopy, half-lidded eyes that make her gaze seem bored or as if she's half asleep. Her left eye is hidden by a large fringe of hair. Due to Sucy's mischievous pastel complexion, her apparent lack of arms (her arms are only visible when she moves them), and a uniform that is longer than usual, reaching the floor, she exudes a mysterious aura and a ghostly appearance.

When she appears in the short films, Sucy is portrayed as a distant, calm, sarcastic, and possibly sadistic person. She also surprisingly remains indifferent to various situations and things that drive the other girls crazy.

In Sleeping Sucy, and as shown on separate occasions, it has been suggested that even in her own mind, Sucy considers herself an eccentric freak: having a clear preference for things that frighten or at least annoy other girls, such as the idea of ​​being eaten, the foul smells of potions or poisons, conducting a gruesome experiment with potions and poisons on Akko, and playing scary pranks that she finds funny but not her victims. Hannah and Barbara even go so far as to dub her "Sucy the Terrifying" after catching Akko. However, contrary to her own thoughts, Sucy is neither a complete monster nor a heartless antisocial child, as she cares deeply for her friends, despite having no qualms about using them as test subjects in her potion experiments, obtaining their consent, or having no other hobbies unrelated to poisons, mushrooms, and potions, such as yoga and meditation. Furthermore, the only emotional connection he had was with Akko, which explains why the memory of their first encounter was considered the best he ever had.

Akko is a girl of average height. She has long brown hair with straight bangs, which she parts in a half-up style, pulling it back into a short ponytail. She also has oval red eyes and pale skin.

Akko is an excited, impulsive, reckless, optimistic (possibly autistic), and energetic girl with a short temper. Because of her strong determination, she always rises to a challenge, even if it seems too difficult for her. Since Akko is very social, kind, and genuinely compassionate, people are often drawn to her cheerful disposition.

Akko has an idealized view of witches inspired by her childhood idol, Shiny Chariot, which clashes with her classmates' perspectives. As a fan, she has a poster of Shiny Chariot in her room and often uses the Shiny Chariot concept in her fantasies. It's worth noting that she's also very immersed in her fantasies and sometimes disregards other people's opinions. This trait has been toned down in the TV series, but it's still quite evident. However, that doesn't mean she's a selfish or arrogant person. In the second special, Akko realizes that she went too far in her adventures, jeopardizing her friendship with Sucy and Lotte, which ultimately leads to her becoming overwhelmed with sadness.

Through her first visit to the Polaris Fountain, Akko realizes that to achieve her dreams, she had to work hard to ultimately contribute to her mastery of magic, a skill she would later refine. While she fully embraces this lesson, it doesn't mean she's a completely changed girl; Akko still retains her impulsive and reckless attitude, and a long road ahead with Ursula and the seven new magic words would guide her on her journey. It's true that this, along with her idealized view of witches, her willingness to break the rules to do what's right, and her inferior yet enhanced magical talents, made her special at Luna Nova Academy and a constant source of frustration for Finnelan, as well as for Ursula internally.

Hannah and Barbara are two girls of average height. Hannah has brown hair, slightly wavy, tied back in a ponytail with a yellow ribbon. Her hazel eyes show a determined attitude, and she has somewhat thick eyebrows.

Barbara, however, has long, straight black hair that reaches her waist, and teal eyes. Her eyelashes are prominent at the bottom of her eyes, and her eyebrows are somewhat as thick as Hannah's.

The standard uniforms at Luna Nova Academy for both girls consist of a dark blue jacket and skirt with matching buttons down the front, a white shirt and tie underneath, and a plain blue belt. They wear matching stockings and dark brown shoes.

Both are usually shown as very mocking girls and disrespectful to Akko and her friends, due to their incompetence with magic and their academic level at school, as well as being friends of Diana, who also does not have a good relationship with her. As a result of their attitude, in the episode Don't Stop Me Now, they negatively help Akko in the broom race by transforming hers into a poorly made cart to participate, since she could not fly with it.

Even when showing these bad qualities, they demonstrate too much fear of the monsters or dangerous places that Diana takes them to, who thinks that they are the ones who should actually be scary and not the other way around.

Also, Barbara is a fan of the Night Fall novels, although she is afraid to admit it since Hannah doesn't like them.

Appleton Academy is a prestigious and traditional school that primarily caters to young people from influential families or those with political ties. The campus is vast, comprised of numerous large and ostentatious buildings, as well as several gardens. The grounds are quite old and include traditional structures such as a church, fireplaces, and medieval statues and suits of armor.

At the school, everyone harbors a deep contempt for witchcraft. Besides the "Familiar Exterminators," who are constantly busy eliminating rats they consider familiars of witches corrupting the school, Appleton Academy also has another group called the "Anti-Witches," whose members practice witchcraft. While the leader of this latter group is distinguished by his round, golden mask, his subordinates wear pointed masks in the style of the Ku Klux Klan. They also possess various medieval torture instruments used against witches.

Since its founding, the school has had a tradition of resolving any conflict through a sword duel on the bridge beneath the knight statues. One of these statues is infested with the Pixels de Croix after being revealed from the remains of the Holy Grail, which Louis smashed out of spite. The Pixels gather around the young man, using him as a living battery as they wreak havoc. The Pixels' hold on the statue is later broken when Amanda pierces its faceplate with her rapier, which she upgraded into a real sword by combining it with her wand, freeing Louis, who is humiliated by his predicament. The other statue, however, falls to the ground during the ensuing chaos and would have crushed other Appleton Academy students below were it not for Akko's quick thinking in throwing them to safety.

The academy uniform consists of a black suit with a white shirt and tie, gray trousers, and black shoes.

Louis is a tall young man with pale skin, blond hair styled to one side, and blue eyes. He wears the standard Appleton Academy uniform.

Louis is an arrogant and malicious young man. He takes great pride in being the son of the Minister of Defense and expects everyone to respect him for that reason alone. He is heavily influenced by his father, sharing all his opinions about the need for a violent policy, as well as his contempt for witches. He has a marked tendency to cheat, using all sorts of tricks to beat others in simple card games or serious duels.

After being rescued from the armor possessed by Pixels, Louis finally understood the mistakes and harm he had caused himself and others. His opinion of witches seemed to improve to the point of being, at best, neutral toward them, as demonstrated by his willingness to support Akko and her friends in stopping Noir Missile.

Frank is a young blond man with hazel eyes. He usually wears his hair in an Elvis-style pompadour. Although he doesn't always dress the same, his usual attire consists of a tuxedo with a shirt and tie. During his visit to Luna Nova Magical Academy, he wore a grayish-brown tuxedo with a blue tie and a white shirt. At the royal party at Hanbridge Manor, he wore a grayish-blue tuxedo with a black shirt and a turquoise tie.

Frank is a very cheerful and jovial friend, Andrew's self-proclaimed best friend. Despite being enrolled at Appleton Academy, he shows interest in witches, particularly the students of Luna Nova Magical Academy. He is polite, as he scolds Andrew for being rude to Diana.
