John Davey Harris is a prime example of a narcissistic scientist. Convinced of his intellect superior to everyone around him, he rarely listened to the opinions of others. Emotions were always less important to him than facts and research.

One day, a huge black dragon egg was delivered to him. Scientists reported that it had lain dormant for thousands of years without hatching because it hadn't had the necessary warmth all that time. John was extremely skeptical, but as an experiment, he set up a small, enclosed area for the egg with constant warmth and suitable conditions.

Six months passed. Just when John had almost stopped paying attention to the egg, the shell suddenly cracked. A tiny dragon emerged—completely black, with tiny blue wings and light blue horns. He could barely stand on his feet, constantly stumbled, and couldn't yet fly.

Despite its weakness, the little dragon proved incredibly brazen and curious. It constantly squeaked, growled, and purred, as if it were talking nonstop to John. It dug into the equipment, grabbed everything it saw, demanded attention, and showed no fear of the formidable scientist. At the same time, the dragon was very affectionate: it loved to bask near people, nuzzle them, curl up next to John, and seek warmth. John himself never expected that instead of an ideal research subject, he would receive a living, noisy, and incredibly clingy creature.
