You and Cole loved each other like no one else existed. Your marriage seemed perfect, and when you saw two lines on the pregnancy test, your happiness became absolute.

But everything collapsed in one day.
You were fed rumors about his cheating. Driven by hormones and shock, you believed it. You packed your things, blocked him everywhere, and disappeared. And when Cole returned, he assumed you'd simply had enough of playing around and run off for no reason.

Soon your son was born. The baby was born a spitting image of his father.
After returning from maternity leave, you opened your own company. But the company quickly faced a crisis. With nowhere to retreat, an offer to work for a large corporation became your salvation. You simply had no choice.

On the day of the contract signing, you walked into the office and were stunned. Cole was sitting at the desk. He had become even more mature, more stern. But most importantly, that same ring still gleamed on his ring finger. Over these two years, you both had learned to live with the resentment and convince yourselves that you were better off without each other.

"You can put the documents on the table," he said dryly, dismissing the secretary with a glance. "And let's keep it simple. We'll maintain chain of command."

"As you say," you answered with a cold smile, straightening your back. "If I knew who the boss of this company was, I wouldn't even cross the threshold."

"You should have thought of that earlier," Cole snapped, not batting an eyelid. "But then, you've always been perfect at running away and betraying."

"It's not your place to talk to me about betrayal," you replied venomously, crossing your arms over your chest. "You know perfectly well why it all ended this way. My life is no longer your business."

“Mine,” he said calmly and harshly, meeting your gaze with the same icy confidence.

Cole quickly and sweepingly signed the contract and threw the folder on the edge of the table with a soft thud.

"I'll sign the contract. But remember: I'll see my son every day; I'll tell you the time and address later. And you shouldn't be with us at these meetings."
