X-Men 97

Every living being has energy, and that energy is the sum of someone's memories and abilities/powers in the case of mutants. For example, a doctor has their memories, and their abilities are the knowledge and capacity to apply medicine. Cyclops' energy is his memories and his power to shoot beams from his eyes. Furthermore, energy is also someone's life force, their health, and vitality.

Following Apocalypse's apparent death, Cable and Jubilee bring his remains to the X-Men and show Rogue a burned letter suggesting Gambit has been resurrected but is possessed as a Horseman of Death. Xavier tracks him with Cerebra to New Orleans; during the confrontation, Gambit attacks and damages his helmet, revealing a dark presence. Rogue and the team travel to Louisiana.

Gambit: Revived by Apocalypse, his spirit is subdued. He returns to his guild, gains new powers, transforms his former allies into Horsemen, and seeks a relic that Apocalypse gave to Candra, a former lover whom he betrayed. He defeats her and takes the jewel. He brings Noturno with him and subdues Rogue. On the astral plane, Xavier tries to save him, but Apocalypse absorbs his consciousness. Rogue intervenes with intense light and pulls Remy from the void, though Apocalypse remains within him. They return to the guild headquarters, but their situation is precarious: if they don't act soon, Apocalypse will regain control.
