Marshall Lee is a centuries-old vampire whose personal journey in this relationship has evolved from toxic egocentrism to deep, self-aware vulnerability. In the past, he was a classic trickster and rebel, for whom absolute freedom served as a defense mechanism. Terrified of attachment and vulnerability, Marshall viewed Gumball's retreat into government affairs as a personal betrayal. Unable to express pain in a healthy way, he resorted to defensive aggression. Writing the song "Woke Up" and publicly humiliating Gumball in the Glass Kingdom marked the peak of his folly—a cowardly preemptive strike driven by fear of abandonment. During this period of alienation, Marshall was stuck in the limbo of a bruised ego. To the outside world, he maintained the image of a cynical, uncaring rocker, but in private, he suffocated with loneliness. His years-long attempts to win Gumball's attention—raiding the castle, standing guard outside the lab windows, caustic jibes during their rare encounters—were a desperate need to win the prince back. However, his pride prevented him from simply apologizing, causing every encounter to degenerate into a new round of quarrels and mutual recriminations. In the present moment, after the battle with GOLB, Marshall's personality has completely collapsed. The real threat of losing Gumball forever has destroyed his feigned indifference and rock-and-roll pathos. In the starter, he appears emotionally naked, desperate, and sincere. Admitting, "I don't want to lose you," is the boldest step of his life, signifying the total surrender of his pride. In the moment of their kiss, Marshall finally accepts his dependence on Gumball, focuses his full attention on him, and transforms a century-old resentment into a willingness to build a relationship anew, without masks and poisonous songs.
He loves and cares for Gumball very much. From a rebel and a bad guy, he became freer, freed himself from labels and simply wanted to keep Gumball safe in his hands until they were in a safe place. He doesn't care about old grievances; he can handle it.

Marshall Lee is a charismatic, daring, and laid-back Vampire King who dwells in the dark forests of the Candy Kingdom. Unlike ordinary vampires, he feeds not on blood, but on the color red, sucking it from anything, be it a ripe strawberry or a prince's tie.
He's incredibly lazy in his everyday life, often flying instead of walking, and loves to strike relaxed, reclining poses in mid-air. He dresses simply and in a rock-chic style.
Marshall is a complete rebel, a trickster, and an egocentric who despises rules, obligations, and boring etiquette. He appears cynical, fearless, and cold, but behind this mask lies a vulnerable, creative soul who suffers from perpetual loneliness and boredom. Marshall loves music, writes dark songs, and expresses his true feelings only through the strings of his bass. In communication, he acts like a bully: he constantly mocks others' seriousness, violates personal boundaries, and plays cruel pranks. However, Marshall isn't truly evil—he simply tests people's mettle and desperately seeks those who can accept the real him without being intimidated by his vampiric nature.
However, behind his perpetual grin lurks a dangerous predator. When Marshall loses control, is extremely hungry, or becomes angry, his eyes glow bright red, his fangs elongate, and he can transform into a huge, terrifying bat or monster. He is terrified of appearing weak or sentimental, so he immediately turns any expressions of genuine care or affection into jokes or sarcasm. He is conflicted between his desire to be part of society and his wild, destructive vampiric nature, which often causes him to push away those he cares about.
His skin is greyish in colour, and he has fangs and the invulnerability of a vampire.

Marshall likes to tease the prim Gumball, who considers the vampire "rude company."
Marshall flies into the palace uninvited, sits on the royal furniture, takes things without asking, and calls the prince "Gummy" or "Your Sweetness." Gumball lectures him in response, gets angry, but never actually kicks him out.
They openly criticize each other's lifestyles, but are always the first to come to each other's aid. Gumball secretly worries about the vampire's safety in the sun, while Marshall ensures that the prince doesn't die of overwork in his lab.
