Ability
His ability is called "The Overcoat." It allows Gogol to use his cloak as a portal or "pocket dimension": he can transport objects and even living beings within a radius of approximately 30 meters. With it, he can, for example:
makes his hand and revolver appear in a completely different place;
"cuts off" Atsushi Nakajima's leg from his body, keeping it in a separate space;
saves the falling Sigma by redirecting his movement and even stops the bleeding.

Role in the plot
Gogol plays an active role in the events of the "Perfect Murder and the Killer" arc, as well as the "Death of the Celestials" arc. He serves as a "cleaner," eliminating those who know too much about the organization's plans. To infiltrate other organizations, he masterfully disguises himself—for example, he spent six months posing as Tonan's secretary. During the course of the story, he also frames the Armed Detective Agency.
Relationships with other characters
Gogol has a special connection with Fyodor Dostoevsky. He calls him "Dos-kun" (in the Japanese version), "Fedya" (in the Russian version), or "Dostoevsky" (in the official translations). Their relationship is ambiguous: Gogol sees Dostoevsky as someone who truly understands him, yet he also tries to kill him. A fan community has even developed the pairing "Dostogogoli" (Fyolai), a combination of the two characters' names.

Who is he in the plot?
Gogol is a former member of the organization "Death of the Celestials." His appearance and some character traits echo those of the real-life writer: in the anime, he is also portrayed as eccentric, theatrical, and prone to sadistic jokes.
Appearance
Nikolai has gray, layered hair combed to the left side of his face and a long braid that often rests on his right shoulder. A vertical scar runs across his left eye. His right eye appears empty—there is no highlight in it, suggesting blindness. A map-shaped mask or eyepatch is often visible above it.
His outfit is very eccentric and reminiscent of a circus ringmaster: a black cape (the right side is completely black), black and white striped trousers, a shirt with a frilly round collar (similar to a loose turtleneck), dark gloves, and a top hat with a diamond pattern.
Character and motives
Gogol is a man of contrasts: he coexists between a cheerful jester and a cruel killer. He loves asking questions (often in the form of rhetorical threats or "quizzes") and then answering them himself, often appearing insane and enjoying the process itself.
His main goal is to achieve absolute freedom, freeing himself from all emotions. He dreams of "flying out of the cage of his skull," like a bird. However, there is another side to him: he realizes that his actions are cruel and wrong, and he feels guilty.

His ability is called "Crime and Punishment." Essentially, it allows Fyodor to "transmigrate" into the body of the person who killed him: he literally bursts out from under the victim's skin, leaving them writhing in agony, and replaces the killer's face with his own. No matter the distance, the method of murder, or any physiological factors, nothing can hinder the transfer. Along with their consciousness, he also takes on the victim's abilities.
There are some nuances: the ability does not work if Fyodor is killed by someone like Dazai (who is able to nullify abilities) or if he voluntarily takes his own life.
Motivation
His ultimate goal is to obtain that magical book. He wants to rewrite reality so that no one with superpowers remains in the world. He views the use of such powers as a sin requiring punishment.

Fyodor is a tall, slender young man. He has a pale face and long, tousled, purple-black hair that reaches his shoulders. His eyes are dark violet, narrow, and almost always half-lidded, giving him a perpetually tired look.
He dresses formally: a white button-down shirt with light purple cuffs and piping, and white trousers. He completes the look with a long black coat with a white fur collar, a white ushanka hat, and long maroon (sometimes described as red) boots.
Personality
Fyodor is one of the main antagonists. He is characterized by cunning, unpredictability, and a sinister disposition. He is calm and self-assured, rarely wavering even in difficult situations.
He has a keen intellect, a phenomenal memory, and a profound understanding of human psychology. He masterfully manipulates people, sees their innermost thoughts and desires, and is adept at crafting complex, insidious plans. At the same time, he is extremely arrogant and straightforward.
One of his most striking traits is his unique philosophy. He speaks of the "sinful nature" of man and believes his mission is to "purify" the world. At the same time, he sincerely believes he is fulfilling God's will. His actions are guided by cold calculation, placing his own goals above morality and human lives.
Fyodor is selfish: he views his allies (for example, from "Rats of the Dead House" or "The Decay of an Angel") as pawns, exploiting and betraying them for his own purposes.
Because of his actions, his opponents (including Osamu Dazai) have nicknamed him "Demon" or "Monster." However, he maintains a polite and reserved demeanor, and can be friendly at times.
Role in the plot and abilities
He is the leader of the "Rats of the Dead House" organization and is also a member of the "Death of the Celestials" group. Before the three-way war between the organizations, he temporarily collaborated with the "Esper Guild"—they were united by the search for a special book capable of altering reality.

In the story, he participates in the events surrounding Fyodor Dostoevsky's release from prison. After contact with Dostoevsky, Sigma falls into a coma due to information overload—he has acquired hundreds of years of Dostoevsky's memories.

Personality
Sigma is a complex character with contradictory personalities. On the one hand, he cares for his casino's customers, striving to be kind and fair. On the other, his tough exterior crumbles when he's left alone.
He has a strong sense of ownership: for him, the casino is his life, and he's willing to protect it at any cost. However, Sigma himself believes he has no natural talent as a manager, and simply works hard, memorizing data on thousands of guests.
He has no memories of the past, no family, no friends, and his greatest desire is to find meaning in life. Fyodor Dostoevsky called him "implacable" because of his desperate state.
Ability
His ability is called "Information Exchange." Through physical contact with a person, it allows him to obtain information they wish to conceal in exchange for information Sigma desires. This ability is unsuitable for direct combat, but has great potential for criminal purposes.
Role in the plot
Sigma is a member of the organization "Decay of the Angel" and the general manager of the "Sky Casino" floating in the sky. He takes his role very seriously: he spends his nights memorizing the names and personality traits of his clients to better serve them.
His "birth" is linked to the "Book": he came into the world thanks to a page from it. However, he immediately found himself in a desert without memories, with a ticket from a non-existent station. He later became a victim of human trafficking, but was recruited by a member of the "Death of the Celestials" in exchange for a place where he could belong.

Role in the plot
Ivan is a member of the underground organization "Rats of the Dead House." He performs various tasks throughout the story, such as guarding Alexander Pushkin on Dostoevsky's orders. In the "Cannibalism Arc," he engages in battle with Atsushi Nakajima and Ryunosuke Akutagawa, attempting to stop them. Ultimately, despite his strength, Goncharov loses the two heroes' combined attack. After their defeat, Akutagawa reveals the truth: Dostoevsky has removed the part of Ivan's brain responsible for feelings of unhappiness.

Ivan has long, straight silver hair that reaches the middle of his back.

Personality
Ivan appears carefree and optimistic. A smile (sometimes bordering on frenzy) is almost constantly visible on his face. He feels the deepest devotion to Dostoevsky: he is ready to do anything for the "master," even harm himself on direct orders. At the same time, he is also self-assured: he is reckless in battle, does not lose his composure even under pressure, and firmly believes in Fyodor's plan.
There is also an interesting detail that contrasts with his gloomy image: Ivan loves classical music and often listens to the radio.
Ability
His ability is called "Cliff" (絶壁, Zeppeki). It allows him to manipulate rock: he can transform rocks into weapons (such as creating stone golems), use them defensively and offensively, and form multiple arms to grab and immobilize enemies. Furthermore, his connection to the earth gives him a passive advantage: he can sense the presence of enemies as long as they are on the surface.
There's a catch to using the power: to maximize his relaxation and concentration, Ivan wraps himself in his futon—he even gave it a name.
The name of the ability is a reference to the novel of the same name by the real writer Ivan Goncharov.
