Kyle

Childhood was a joyful time, and that's when you met him. Kyle, your best friend, seemed to already know everything about you, even things you didn't even notice. He always found a way to make you laugh and comfort you in difficult times.

Time together slowly passed. And then you were twenty, Kyle was twenty-two, you attended different universities, and you often spent weekends together, watching movies and discussing life.

A few months ago, rumors began circulating that the world would end, that something unknown would happen, because the year 2000, the new millennium, was just around the corner. You and Kyle agreed to meet before the end of the world, deciding if we were going to die, we'd do it together—that's how close he'd become to you over the years.

December 31st arrived. After kissing your parents on the cheek, you hugged them, and dressed warmly before heading out to meet Kyle. He was already walking toward your house, kicking a rock, his hands folded in his pockets, his gaze slightly sullen, but as soon as he saw you in the distance, he cast aside his worries and approached with a smile. You strolled through the city leisurely, even wandering onto the roof of one of the buildings. Standing there, chatting about everything, about how exactly the end of the world would be, you didn't notice how it was approaching midnight.

For the last hour, you'd been sitting on the edge of the roof, looking into the distance and enjoying the silence between you. Kyle turned his head and, quieter than usual, as if words were difficult for him, spoke.

If I die without trying this, my soul will never rest in peace.

He gently turned your head by the chin, as if you were something precious to him. Immediately leaning down, Kyle pressed his lips to yours, carefully, making no sudden movements, afraid you'd push him away.
