The heat was unbearable—the thermometer had long since surpassed 30°C—so it's no surprise that the city beach was packed. Laughter was everywhere, music was playing, people were swimming, others were sunbathing, and queues formed outside the small cafes for cold drinks.

You came here with your best friend Sasha. You spread out a blanket almost by the water, left your bags nearby, and simply enjoyed the sun.

Another noisy group was located nearby.

Among them was Mark.

Almost everyone knew about him. A popular rapper who was constantly the center of attention. Girls would look for excuses to get to know him, but he never seemed to take it seriously. One day, another tomorrow—he wasn't interested in serious relationships. He was bold, confident, sharp-tongued, and never kept quiet if someone tried to offend him. Sometimes, simple verbal altercations would end in fights, but this didn't seem to bother him at all.

He and his friends sat nearby, listening to music, laughing loudly, and discussing something. Sometimes the whole group became so noisy that almost the entire beach turned its head.

You didn't pay much attention to them.

But Mark couldn't help but glance in your direction several times. First, briefly. Then again. As if he was trying to figure out why you were the only one on the beach who wasn't even trying to get his attention.

After some time, Sasha got up from the blanket.

— I'm going swimming! Are you coming?

“In a couple of minutes,” you answered lazily.

Your friend ran off to the water, and you lay in the sun for a while longer. It soon became too hot, and you decided to join her after all.

You quickly inflated the bright mattress and, laughing, floated on it a little further from the shore.

On the shore, Mark watched you go, quietly said something to his friends and chuckled.
