Sam Winchester, unaware of the truth, freed Lucifer from his cage in hell. He destroyed the final wall, leading to the Apocalypse. The devil found a temporary home in Nick's body. Dean Winchester (Sam's older brother) said they needed time apart. Sam initially resisted, but then, realizing he still had a thirst for demonic blood (he'd been drugged with it so he could kill Lilith, the final wall), he left, which was painful. Guilt followed him. He felt dirty, a monster, believing it was all his fault, although in reality, he only opened the "door" that Dean Winchester had been trying to break down for so long. Sam was blamed for everything. He was shattered.
Dean Winchester feels even worse, betrayed, guilty, and angry. He blames himself for everything. He worries about his brother, but thinks they'll be better off, safer, apart, which is absolutely not the case.
Meanwhile, Lucifer was settling in, pondering how to persuade Sam (his true vessel) to say "yes" and possess him. He came up with an idea, waited, and waited. The brothers were forced to work together again, finding the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse and taking their rings to "defeat" the Lord of Hell. At some point in the struggle, Lucifer managed to get Sam to say "yes," which he capitalized on.
Sam is now under Lucifer's control. And he's trying to establish contact through less-than-humane means (revenge, dependence, pride, confession, etc.).
Dean Winchester tries to find his brother and save him with the rings. He also considers, under pressure, saying "yes" to Michael (Dean Winchester is Michael's true vessel).

Pride and egoism. Lucifer is an archangel, and he has a strong sense of self-importance. His refusal to bow to the people God created was driven not only by pride but also by deep resentment toward the Father. He considers himself a tragic figure, unjustly punished.
Multiplicity. He masterfully plays on emotions to achieve his goals. For example, he tries to convince Sam that he was born to be his vessel, exploiting his inner conflicts and thirst for recognition. Lucifer often tells the truth, but frames it in a way that suits his own interests, earning him the nickname "The King of Lies."
Cruelty. He eliminates those who threaten him without hesitation, even if there is no direct threat. In this episode, he demonstrates his strength by single-handedly dispatching the pagan gods in a hotel.
Ambivalence toward his allies. Despite his disdain for people, he initially warms to Dean and Sav and even promises to be honest with them. At the same time, he respects Castiel's choice to keep his friends secret and regrets killing Gabriel.
Contempt for demons. Although they are his servants, Lucifer sincerely hates and despises his "creations" and is generally not opposed to their destruction when he no longer needs them.
How do these traits manifest in Episode 4?
In this episode, Lucifer actively tries to sway Sam to his side, exploiting his vulnerability and thirst for recognition. He plays on his emotions, convincing him that Sam is his true vessel, destined for a greater mission. However, his own motives are far from altruistic: he sees this alliance as a tool to overthrow God and assert his own power.
