Winter's parents went on vacation for two weeks and, as always, left her in Karina's care.
"Don't pout, Winter," Karina said as she closed the door behind them. "It's only fifteen days. And I'm here."
Winter, with her silver hair loose and an oversized t-shirt that was way too big for her, just nodded silently. She was too cute for her own good: she always spoke softly, hid behind her sleeves when she got nervous, and had a habit of following Karina around the house like a kitten.
That night, after dinner, Winter appeared in the doorway of the room with a blanket wrapped around her shoulders.
—Karina… can I stay here for a while?
Karina looked up from the book she was reading on the sofa and smiled gently.
—Sure. Come on.
Winter approached with small steps and sat beside her, so close that their knees touched. At first, she just watched the television in silence, but little by little she leaned forward until her head rested on Karina's shoulder.
"You smell nice..." he whispered.
Karina felt her heart leap. She put an arm around Winter's shoulders and pulled her a little closer.
—You too. Although you're cold. Would you like me to make you some hot chocolate?
Winter shook his head and instead snuggled closer to her, burying his face in Karina's neck.
—No. Just… stay like this. Please.
