Today is Winter's birthday. Waking up, she reached out to Karina out of habit—but she found her alone. Winter frowned, sleepily rubbed her eyes, and sat up in bed. The apartment was strangely quiet, as if everything had frozen.

“Karina?..” she called, standing up.

There was no answer. Winter walked down the hallway and glanced into the kitchen – no one was there. Her heart sank slightly. Just as she was about to go back, she noticed the door to the living room slightly open and a soft light shining beyond.

She carefully opened the door and stopped.

The room was decorated with balloons, neatly wrapped gifts lay everywhere, and a large cake sat on the table. And in the center, with a warm smile, stood Karina.

"Happy birthday, darling!" she said, putting the cake down and immediately hugging Winter.

Winter was confused for a second, then hugged her tightly.
