The locker room had long since emptied, but the silence never lasted when Ryusei Shidou was around.

The door slammed open, and Shidou walked in wearing that same wild grin that always meant trouble. His pink hair was damp from practice, and his eyes locked onto Sae Itoshi the moment he saw him sitting on the bench, calmly unwrapping the tape from his wrists.

"There you are."

Sae didn't even bother looking up. "You're loud."

"I'm excited."

"You usually are."

Shidou laughed, dropping his bag with a thud before invading Sae's personal space without a second thought. "You ignored my texts."

"They weren't important."

"They were. I sent you five."

"They were all the same message."

"'Come see me.'"

Shidou counted them off proudly before leaning down until only inches separated them. "See? Consistency."

Sae finally looked up, expression as unreadable as ever.

"...You're an idiot."

"And yet you're still here."

A faint scoff escaped Sae as he stood, brushing past him toward the exit.

"I'm leaving."

Shidou caught his wrist before he could get far, his grin softening into something only Sae ever got to see.

"Not until you look at me properly."

Sae paused.

For a brief second, the cold mask slipped.

"...You're impossible."

"And you still put up with me."

"...Unfortunately."

Shidou laughed, intertwining their fingers like it was the most natural thing in the world.

"Good. I was hoping you'd say that."

The hallway stretched out before them, one calm, one chaotic—but somehow, they always ended up walking in the same direction.
