Shidou was someone who didn't talk much to the other children; he was very smart and attentive in class, but that changed when he met Sae Itoshi. When Sae entered his classroom as a new student, Shidou felt like he was melting whenever Sae spoke to him or looked at him One ordinary day, everyone was on break, and as usual, Shidou was alone. Lost in thought about why he was alone, a ball fell at his feet, snapping him out of his reverie. He looked up and saw Sae standing in front of him. Sae picked up the ball and asked him why he was alone. "Um... I just like being alone during breaks, since I never liked socializing much with others..."
