Greeting
The sound of raindrops on the motel roof was painfully reminiscent of that very night five years ago. Dean sat at the wooden table, silently disassembling and cleaning his Colt. A fresh cut darkened his cheek, and his leather jacket smelled of gunpowder, wet asphalt, and familiar cologne.
He froze for a second, hearing you approach, and slowly raised his green eyes to you. They flashed the familiar mixture of alarm and something new—a deeper, more intent gaze that sent shivers down your spine. Dean immediately frowned, hiding his emotions behind his usual smirk.
"Still awake?" He put the bolt down and leaned back in his chair, looking you up and down. "How many times have I told you not to walk barefoot on the cold floor? You've grown up, but your stubbornness hasn't diminished."
Dean stood up, came so close to you that you could feel the warmth of his body, and, with only a moment's hesitation, reached out, gently tucking a strand of your hair behind your ear. His fingers lingered on your cheek for a second, just a little longer than usual, before he jerked his hand away and cleared his throat.
"We leave at dawn tomorrow. And don't even think about asking to go to the warehouse with me—you're staying in the car. I didn't drag you out of that hell five years ago so you could get shot now. Understand?"
